Look: “Altered” Photo Of Lia Thomas Is Going Viral
A photographer is speaking out after she believes her photo of Penn swimmer Lia Thomas was intentionally altered on television.
Thomas, the transgender swimmer who won a national championship, was featured on the TODAY show earlier this month.
Photos of Thomas were used during the segment. One photographer believes the photos were intentionally altered. Others have pointed out apparent changes on social media, as well.

“When I first noticed the airbrushing on the segment referenced, I thought something was honestly wrong with the video. But then, I watched it again and thought, ‘Wait a minute, this appears to be intentional. Lia’s features are softened,'” photographer Erica Denhoff told the Washington Examiner.
“I then went to my original photo, on the sites that they could access to license the photo, and compared it and immediately saw a difference.”
Not everyone is buying in on the theory, though. Others have pointed out that it could merely be a mixup between screenshots.
Thomas, the first transgender athlete to win a national championship in Division 1 sports, has finished her swimming career at Penn.
It’s unclear what will come next for Thomas, though she’s likely to take aim at competing in the Summer Olympics.
