Local Sports:Monroe girls basketball, bowling win Wednesday

MONROE – Trent Moody came out on top in a battle of two undefeated first-year head coaches as his Monroe High team held off Nick Brillhart’s Whiteford squad 38-35 Wednesday night.

“It was not our prettiest game, but you have to win ugly sometimes and we did that,” Moody said. “I am thrilled with our 3-0 start. Monroe didn’t win back-to-back games last year and we just won our first three. The girls are doing everything we ask and have been a thrill to coach and I am very happy to be at Monroe.”

Zoe Leach led the Trojans with 12 points. Jillian Roberts added 9 and Alana Aulph 8.

“We played a great defensive first half only giving up 9 points, but struggled in the second half giving up second-chance points and allowed them to shoot open shots,” Moody said.
