The Mike Mignano Community Logo Art Challenge has begun. Spots remain for four more local businesses that need logos. Area designers also are needed.

Aaron Lavender, member of The Opportunity Center Advisory Council, created the challenge, with support from the Monroe County Opportunity Program and The Opportunity Center.

Lavender wanted to honor his lifelong friend, Mike Mignano, a Monroe designer who died unexpectedly in August.

“Michael Lee Mignano made such an inspirational impact on my life,” Lavender, said. “I couldn’t think of a better way to honor his brilliance and friendship, leaving a legacy for years to come.”

Mignano created several logos at The Opportunity Center @ ALCC, including for the Darin Hoskins court logo that was unveiled last August.

“Mike was very humble, generous and loves his community,” organizers said. “He was a brilliant logo art designer and never asked for money for his work. It is through this challenge that we hope to keep Mike’s spirit alive by connecting artists with local businesses and organizations to explore their creativity. This will keep Mike’s love for giving back alive for years to come.”

The Mike Mignano Community Logo Art Challenge aims to support local businesses and artists.

“It was created to bring local businesses together with creative designers to help breathe new life into Monroe companies with fresh, new logos,” the organizers said.

Four spots remain for local businesses.

“If you are a Monroe County business who needs a logo refresher or are a new entity in need of a creative logo designed, contact MCOP to sign up for the Challenge. Similarly, if you are a creative designer who would like to create a logo for a local business and have the chance to win $250, contact MCOP for more information,” organizers said.

Businesses will be paired with a designer, and they will work together to come up with a logo.

“The Mike Mignano Community Logo Art Challenge is a creative way for us to support local business and artists across Monroe County,” Stephanie Zorn Kasprzak, executive director of MCOP and The Opportunity Center @ ALCC, said. “We are thrilled that the first logo to be designed in the challenge will be The Opportunity Center @ ALCC.”

For more questions contact Zorn-Kasprzak at (734) 241-2775, ext. 206 or skasprzak1140@gmail.com.
