Hey now, hey now, this is what dreeeeams are made of. 🎶

Hilary Duff, Y2K icon and former Disney darling, is hopeful that a Lizzie McGuire reboot could still happen and OMG this is the information we needed to start a new week. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on January 26, the actress said she is “optimistic” about the possible revival of the hit series, which aired on the Disney Channel from 2001 to 2004.

When asked if she would proceed with the Lizzie McGuire reboot if “it lived up to her vision,” Hilary replied, “Of course.”

ICYMI, Disney+ announced a Lizzie McGuire revival series in August 2019, but production stalled due to creative differences between Disney and Hilary. The series filmed two episodes, but the project was scrapped in December 2020 after original showrunner Terri Minsky exited and an agreement could not be reached on the future of Lizzie and her animated alter ego.

According to Cosmopolitan, the streamer wanted a more “family-friendly” feel for the reboot series, which Hilary didn’t find realistic. “I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today,” the actress shared in an Instagram post at the time. “It’s what the character deserves.”

During her WWHL interview, host Andy Cohen questioned what the “main sticking point” was that led to the cancellation of the series. Hilary struggled to answer, but eventually gave us all a glimmer of hope.

“Oh ok, um… Disney+ was very new,” she began. “You know, I think they were like figuring out their… and we were figuring out our… I am optimistic.”

OG cast members were slated to appear on the revival series, like Gordo (Adam Lamberg) and Lizzie’s entire fam — Matt (Jake Thomas), Jo (Hallie Todd), and Sam McGuire (Robert Carradine).

Although there’s no confirmation on an actual reboot happening, we ofc will manifest the return of Lizzie McGuire (but tbh, we never stopped). In the meantime, we’ll be streaming all 65 episodes of Lizzie McGuire on Disney+.
