Replay: Indiana 20, Wisconsin 14; Braelon Allen, Chimere Dike did not play

The Wisconsin Badgers will try to bounce back after a loss against Ohio State by taking on Indiana on Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Badgers fell 24-10 to the No. 3 Buckeyes in Madison last Saturday night, notable for both the second start for redshirt freshman quarterback Braedyn Locke and for a left-ankle injury that knocked star running back Braelon Allen out of the game. Allen is out for today's game.

The Badgers (3-2 in the Big Ten, 5-3 overall) are in a four-way tie for first place in the Big Ten West division with Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. Wisconsin's four remaining opponents have a combined 8-12 record in the league.

Indiana is coming off a 33-24 loss at No. 9 Penn State last Saturday. The Hoosiers were winless in the Big Ten (0-5) and 2-6 overall until their 20-17 victory Saturday.

Chris Freeman nails a 51-yard FG, IU leads by six

While Wisconsin passed on two chances to kick field goals in the second half, Indiana made the most of its chance. Chris Freeman’s 50-yard field goal with 1:10 remaining doubled the Hoosiers’ lead.

Another drive ends without a FG attempt

The Badgers waste a 22-yard punt return by Vinny Anthony that allowed them to start their latest drive on the UW 40. The team moved 28 yards in five plays and faced a fourth-and-2 from the Hoosiers’ 32.

Usually that is when Nathanial Vakos gets the call, but for the second time second half UW passes on a chance to kick the potential game-tying field goal. Vakos' range is well over 50 yards.

Instead on fourth and 2, Locke’s pass to Will Pauling was high. IU took over at the 32 with 4:07 to play.

Long drive yield nothing for Wisconsin

Wisconsin drove 44 yards in 12 plays on its second drive of the second half. It took 6½ minutes off the clock and had a first down on the Indiana 18.

And what did the Badgers get for all their work? A punt.

The drive began to unravel when Wisconsin was called for delay of game on third and 10. Then on third and 15 from the 23, Braedyn Locke was dropped for a 10-yard loss on a sack by Aaron Casey.

Wisconsin could have attempted a 50-yard field goal but passed. The team took a delay of game penalty to give Atticus Bertrams more room to place his punt. The guess here is that windy conditions inside the stadium played a role in Luke Fickell's decision not to attempt the field goal.

Indiana took over on its 4-yard line and went three and out.

Braedyn Locke, Will Pauling connect on 18-yard TD

The Badgers couldn’t have started the second half better. They went 75 yards in 10 plays and took 4:46 off the clock before Braedyn Locke hit Will Pauling for an 18-yard touchdown.

The score is the third second half touchdown between the two in the three games.

Indiana receiver burns UW twice on TD drive

The Hoosiers needed nine plays to chew up 70 yards on the the way to their second touchdown drive of the game. The possession was fueled by two key plays by Indiana receiver Donaven McCulley.

The junior made a 32-yard play on a second and 10 from the IU 46. McCulley caught the Brendan Sorsby's pass at about the Wisconsin 41 and initially appeared to be tackled by Jonas Duclona.

The reality was that McCulley fell on top of Duclona. McCulley wisely got up and ran for another 19 yards before Hunter Wohler made the stop. A replay review confirmed that McCulley wasn't down.

Four play later McCulley made a one-handed touchdown grab with Alex Smith covering him.

Braedyn Locke, Bryson Green team up for long TD

Wisconsin’s first explosive play of the day was a big one. Braedyn Locke hit Bryson Green in stride on a crossing pattern on third and 8.

Green made the catch in traffic and broke a tackle before sprinting to a 54-yard touchdown.

Badgers benefit from Indiana’s inability to finish drives

Chris Freeman hit a 27-yard field goal to give the Hooisers a 10-0 lead with 8:08 left in the first half. Wisconsin is lucky it’s not down by much more.

IU settled for a field goal after QB Brendan Sorsby's pass to Donaven McCulley was too high and just out of the receiver’s grasp. In the first quarter Freeman missed a 43-yard attempt that came after his team drove 12 plays in 33 yards.

Indiana has three times as many yards as Wisconsin, 151-53. UW is lucky to be down by only 10.

Badgers can get off field on third down

This isn’t the start UW fans were hoping for. Indiana takes the opening drive 66 yards in nine plays and scores on a 8-yard run by QB Brendan Sorsby.

Two themes on the first drive for the Badgers.

1. Getting off the field third down – Indiana converted two third-and-long situations. Both came by pass.

2. Sorsby’s running – The redshirt freshmen ran twice on the possession, gaining 6 yards on a first-down pass and later scoring the touchdown. He also had a 5-yard loss and fumble that he recovered, but overall the drive was a positive when it comes to his ability to be a threat with his legs.

Chimere Dike will sit out today's game

If you were paying attention to the coin flip you saw Chimere Dike dressed in his team-issued sweatsuit. The senior receiver warmed up but his limp was noticeable. C.J. Williams is expected to start in place of Dike, who suffered a right leg injury in the first half against Ohio State last week.

Braelon Allen out; Chimere Dike warming up but …

Unless running back Braelon Allen gets into uniform in the next few minutes, he’ll miss today’s game. The junior wasn’t in uniform as backs Jackson Acker, Cade Yacamelli and Grover Bortolotti went through warmups.

Receiver Chimere Dike, meanwhile, went through warmups but was limping. What does that mean? We’ll find out in about 20 minutes.

Besides Allen’s status, the big news is quarterback Tanner Mordecai being listed as questionable. Mordecai broke his right hand in UW’s 15-6 loss to Iowa on Oct. 14 and was said to be sidelined indefinitely.

Dike, one of the Badgers’ top wide receivers, sustained a right leg injury during the loss to Ohio State.
