Live updates from UIL realigment in the Fort Worth-area. Where will high schools land?

Realignment is finally here.

The UIL announced the districts Thursday morning. See where all Fort Worth-area teams will be playing high school football and basketball. Here are the most important things to know.

Southlake Carroll to face Euless Trinity

Two historic high school football programs are now on a collision course in the new look district 4-6A: Euless Trinity and Southlake Carroll. Justin Northwest is joining the frenzy with its move from Class 5A to Class 6A.

Byron Nelson stayed in District 4-6A along with Keller, Keller Timber Creek and Keller Central. The Byron Nelson Bobcats will have to beat Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity in a district standings race to go back to back as regular season champions.

Hurst L.D. Bell, a longtime rival of Trinity, also made the journey over.

Aledo’s new district play foes

The big question heading into realignment: Will DeSoto, the 2023 Class 6A D2 State Champion, opt up to Class 6A or elect to play in Class 5A? Well, DeSoto was placed in District 11-6A. Although the decision doesn’t necessarily affect Aledo, it’ll make the Bearcats trip to another state championship a whole lot easier.

Aledo will still face Azle, Denton Ryan and Brewer. New opponents include Denton, Granbury and Birdville. One opponent to keep an eye on is Richland, a team that had a deep postseason run in the 2023 season.

Another team to watch is Keller Fossil Ridge, a team that is making the move from Class 6A to Class 5A. How far will the Aledo Bearcats extend their 119 district game winning streak?

New opponents for Crowley ISD

Crowley and North Crowley remain in district 3-6A, and there are some new opponents to face. Mansfield, Mansfield Legacy and Mansfield Lake Ridge are joining while Boswell and Weatherford will stay put.

North Crowley football, a program that made the state semifinal in the 2023 season, does not have a team to give them a district play challenge unless Crowley takes another massive jump under head coach Carlos Lynn.

Mansfield Lake Ridge, currently ranked No. 18 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, should provide North North Crowley basketball with some high level competition in district play, though.

Fort Worth frenzy in district 4-5A D1

Seven of nine high school football teams in District 4-5A D1 are a part of Fort Worth ISD. Fort Worth Arlington Heights and Fort Worth Wyatt will continue their rivalry. Fort Worth Paschal is coming down from Class 6A and should be a force against different competition.

In the previous realignment, these Fort Worth ISD squads had to deal with Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine. Now, they’ll have to deal with Saginaw, a team that won one game in the 2023 season. They’ll also have to deal with Fort Worth Chrisholm Trail, another team that won a single game.

Chisholm Trail, however, is making the move from Class 6A to Class 5A, so they’ll be ready for the challenge.

Burleson Centennial makes move

Burleson Centennial was group with District 3-5A D1 in the last realignment, but now they’ll reside with teams away from the Fort Worth-area. The good news for the Spartans is that they’ll no longer have to compete with Aledo for a district championship.

Basketball, however, is a different story for the Spartans. They’ll be paired with Arlington Seguin, Burleson, Mansfield Summit, Mansfield Timberview and more in Distrcit 8-5A D1.

District 3-5A D2 powerhouses

One word can be used to describe District 3-5A D2: Stacked. Argyle, Colleyville Heritage and Mansfield Timberview football will all fight for the district championship. Two more teams that had strong 2023 seasons include Grapevine and Mansfield Summit.

Colleyville Heritage and Argyle, in 2023, had an instant classic postseason matchup that Colleyville Heritage won with a game winning touchdown. Now, the two programs will continue their rivalry in the regular season.

Decatur joins Fort Worth ISD schools in District 4-4A D1

Decatur made it all the way to the Class 4A D1 State Semifinal in the 2023 football season. Thursday’s realignment joins the dominant program with Fort Worth Carter-Riverside, Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis, Fort Worth Eastern Hills, Fort Worth Southwest and Fort Worth Western Hills.

Springtown, the runner up to Decatur out of district 4-4A in the 2023 season, will join its rival in the new look District 5-4A D1. Decatur is grouped with Fort Worth ISD schools for football, but will not be with the same group for basketball and volleyball.
