Cedar Park, Georgetown jockeying for playoff seedings

With both teams having already qualified for the 5A division 1 playoffs, Georgetown visits Cedar Park in a game that has huge seeding implications for district 11-5A.

Currently Georgetown is second with a 5-1 district record, and Cedar Park is tied with A&M Consolidated for 3rd with a 4-2 mark. A win by Cedar Park and a win by A&M Consolidated over Glenn will cause a 3-way logjam for second at 5-2 which will mean it will go to the tiebreakers to determine the playoff seedings and determine which team will have the home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Follow along here as the Statesman's Rick Cantu reports on the affair at Gupton.

Chaps and Cavs tune up for postseason with wins

Already assured of their playoff positions, both Westlake and Lake Travis ended the regular season on a high note.

Westlake capped its unbeaten regular season with its second shutout in a row blanking Johnson 34-0 at Bob Shelton Stadium in a district 26-6A tussle.

The Chaps extended their district unbeaten streak to 33 games since a 26-25 defeat at the hands of Lake Travis on October 11, 2019.

Lake Travis put aside any notion of a Bowie upset bid as the Cavs raced to a 66-14 at Burger Stadium.

Westlake will host the yet-to be 25-6A division I runner-up, while Lake Travis will visit the 26-6A division I top seed.

Weiss gets back on the winning track

After seeing its unbeaten season come to an end last week at the hands of Waco Midway, Weiss rebounded with a 52-29 win over playoff-bound Hutto at The Pfield.

The Wolves raced to a 21-0 halftime lead and the visitors could not cut come closer than 12 in the second half.

Per Max Preps, Weiss, 9-1, will play host to to 5-5 Cedar Hill in the bi-district round of the playoffs, while 4-6 Hutto will face powerhouse Duncanville in Duncanville.

Hippos' Green and Hammond among national leaders

Hutto’s prolific passing combination of Will Hammond and Alex Green continue to rank at the top or near the top of the national statistical rankings in their respective positions.

Hammond, who has committed to play QB for Joey McGuire at Texas Tech ranks 8th nationally with 3489 yards (387.7 per game). He is the top passer as he is over 250 yards ahead of Frenship’s Hudson Hutcheson entering last night’s contest with district rival Weiss.

Green, who has received his first D1 offers from K-State and Ball State in the last week, is averaging 208.2 yards per game, which is more than 20 yards per game better than his nearest competitor.
