Game recap: No. 18 FAMU storms back to defeat Texas Southern, moves to 5-0 in the SWAC

The Florida A&M Rattlers are playing on the road against Texas Southern Tigers in a Week 8 Southwestern Athletic Conference divisional crossover game at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The Rattlers, SWAC East, are ranked No. 18 in the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll and enter this game 5-1 (4-0 SWAC) on a four-game winning streak. FAMU returns from a bye week and last played at Southern, winning 26-19.

The Tigers, SWAC West, are 2-4 (1-2 SWAC) after spoiling Bethune-Cookman's homecoming with a 34-31 win. TSU is on a two-game winning streak.

The Rattlers have won five straight games and remain atop SWAC standings.

FAMU will host Prairie View A&M for its homecoming game in Week 9.

10:14 p.m. | FAMU ahead of Texas Southern for first time

The Rattlers have the lead.

FAMU running back Kelvin Dean Jr. broke away for a 49-yard run to pull his team ahead.

The Rattlers have ran the ball well, tallying 162 yards thus far. Dean leads with five attempts for 70 yards.

FAMU has tied the game with a tush push for quarterback Jeremy Moussa to score at the goal line.

The Rattlers called on running back Terrell Jennings, who rushed four times for 35 yards. Jaquez Yant rushed five times for 18 yards.

9:25 p.m. | FAMU showing signs of life

The Rattlers are on the board.

Quarterback Jeremy Moussa found receiver Jamari Gassett for a 58-yard touchdown pass for FAMU's first points of the night.

The Rattlers took their time while gradually moving upfield before Moussa took a touchdown strike to Gassett.

Despite trailing, the Rattlers are outgaining the Tigers 182-174. But TSU drives have been five minutes shorter throughout the first half.

FAMU will receive the ball after halftime.

9:05 p.m. | Texas Southern putting FAMU in unfamiliar territory

TSU is leading FAMU 14-0 after a touchdown pass from Jace Wilson to Trenton Leary.

The Tigers are troubling the Rattlers with their tempo offense, forcing the defense to reposition quickly.

FAMU hasn't trailed by 14 points since its Week 2 game at USF (38-24).

TSU scored on its second drive of the night with a TD pass by quarterback Jace Wilson to wide receiver Jyrin Johnson.

The Tigers heavily utilized the rushing attack by running back LaDarius Owens. Unnecessary roughness flag called against FAMU defensive back Kendall Bohler also helped TSU.
