Live updates: Josh Gordon among cuts as Kansas City Chiefs trim roster to final 53

(Update: 4:05 p.m.: Here is the Chiefs’ initial 53-man roster)

The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing wide receiver Josh Gordon as they work toward finalizing their season-opening initial 53-man roster by the NFL’s 3 p.m. Central time deadline on Tuesday, according to a source.

The move to release Gordon, who had an uphill battle to make the roster, was first reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Gordon originally joined the Chiefs in 2021 but finished on the practice squad. He signed a reserve/future deal with Kansas City during the offseason and found himself in an uphill battle to make the roster after the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.

Gordon was buried on the depth chart behind Mecole Hardman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, JuJu Smith-Schuster, rookie Skyy Moore, Justin Watson and Daurice Fountain. During training camp practices, Gordon often worked with the backup offenses and he finished the preseason with one catch for 10 yards.

The Chiefs, who started Tuesday morning with 75 players, need to trim 22 players from the roster before the deadline. Here are the other known moves:
