Live updates from Day 2 of Ohio high school wrestling's OHSAA state tournament in Columbus

The Ohio High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournaments continues Saturday at Ohio State's Value City Arena. It's the 87th boys tournament and the second OHSAA girls state tournament.

7:48 p.m.: Alliance's Aidan Mozden goes the distance to reach state heavyweight final

In late January, Alliance's Aidan Mozden didn't know if he was wrestle again in high school. Now, he's in the state final.

Mozden went to the ultimate tie-breaker round in his Division II heavyweight semifinal with Hebron Lakewood's Keegan Jacks. Mozden nearly rode Jacks for the full 30 seconds, but claimed the win when Jacks defaulted due to a knee injury.

Mozden will look to become Alliance's first state champion since 1984.

7:45 p.m.: Garfield senior Keegan Sell earns return trip to state final

Mechanicsburg's Ronnie Thomas proved an able opponent early, nearly getting Garfield senior Keegan Sell's leg in the opening minute. Sell adjusted just fine and had his own brilliant defensive maneuver, repelling a shot by Thomas, then landing the takedown for a 2-0 lead. He added an escape to start the second period and that ended up being the final point of the match as Sell scored a 3-0 victory.

Sell was in control throughout the third, riding Thomas out to earn his second straight state title match appearance as he hopes to repeat as the Division III 190-pound state champion.

7:37 p.m. Perry adds a third finalist with a three-time finalist

And to no one's surprise it's Panthers senior Aidan Fockler.

The Central Michigan signee and reigning state champion crushed Lancaster's Luke Cox 20-5 to earn a final with Riverside's Antonio Bottiggi, who beat 2023 runner-up Aaron Ries of Wadsworth 3-1.

7:14 p.m. Buckeye adds its third OHSAA Division II state wrestling finalists

Returning state champion Kaden King (157 pounds) and projected champion Eddie Neitenbach (190) gave the Bucks a quartet of finalists.

King beat two-time state placer Cooper Rathburn of Bishop Hartley 7-2 to set up a finals match with Cldy's Lance Overmyer.

Neitenbach scored a 68-second pin of Wauseon's Austin Kovar. He'll face Columbus DeSales Lincoln Shulaw in the final. He tech falled the returning state runner-up this season at the Grizzly Invitational.

7:09 p.m. Woodridge has a state finalist for the first time in six years

It comes in Division II with Bulldogs senior Steven Duffy who shut out Ayden Wilson of Rossford 9-0.

With one more win he can join David Massey atop the podium and it would come at 175 pounds.

Standing in his way is Graham's Gunner Cramblett, who comes in as the reigning state champion.

6:52 Perry adds another state finalist this one at 165 pounds

Landen Johnson isn't injured anymore and the junior made up for his lost sophomore season rather quick.

Johnson pinned Cincinnati Colerain's Kyser Kostoff in 64 seconds.

He'll face returning state champion Ethan Birden of Dublin Coffman in the finals.

6:44 p.m. Wadsworth has its first OHSAA Division I four-time state finalist

As weird as that sounds, the Grizzlies had never had a four-time finalist before. Yes, you can look it up.

It ended Saturday at 150 pounds when two-time state champ Jaxon Joy ran through St. Edward's Lucan O'Brien 18-3.

Joy's next opponent comes Sunday evening against Cincinnati Moeller's Londen.

6:29 p.m. Perry adds an OHSAA Division I state wrestling finalist

Charles Curtis left no doubt in his 138-pound Division I match that was a takedown clinic against Micah Cottrell of Princeton.

The returning Panthers placer won 9-3 and will face returning runner-up Kade Brown of St. Edward

6:22 p.m.: Manchester's Jaydyn McKinney pins her was to state final

Manchester's Jaydyn McKinney will wrestle for her third state title

McKinney continued her dominance of the 135-pound weight class by pinning Howland's Madison Burns in 31 seconds. Between her three matches in Columbus, McKinney has wrestled less than a minute of mat time.

6:10 p.m. Greater Akron/Canton area adds a fourth OHSAA state wrestling finalist

Brecksville's Anna Madi made a few Bees' hearts skip a beat in her 5-3 overtime win over Harrison two-time state champ Raegan Briggs.

Trailing 3-1 in the third, Madi scored a takedown with two seconds left and then doubled it up early in overtime to advance to a state final at 125 against Chippewa's Kayla Moraschan.

5:53 p.m. Mat 6 magic for Buckeye tandem at OHSAA Division II state tournament

"Big mo" was on the side of the Bucks in Division II on Saturday night.

Just seconds after Blake Bartos beat Ontario's Jacob Ohl 5-3 in overtime of his 106-pound semifinal, returning state champion Colyn Limbert followed suit at 120.

Limbert pinned St. Vincent-St. Mary's Christian Osborne in 89 seconds to earn his way to the finals.

Bartos will face Carrollton's Kail Snair of Carrollton. Limbert will face Galion's state placer Grady Harding.

5:45 p.m. Brandon Bickerton remains perfect in Greater Akron/Canton semifinal rematch

Highland's Brandon Bickerton won his third straight match against Wadsworth's Blake Frantz in a semifinal at 106.

The Hornets freshman beat Frantz 5-3 to match wins at the Suburban League Tournament and Ironman Tournament.

Bickerton moves on to face Perrysburg's Ayden Dodd. Bickerton owns an overtime win over Dodd earlier this season.

12:58 p.m.: J.P. Wrobel, Tristen McKibben will place for the first time

Wrobel, a four-time state qualifier from Crestwood, bounced back from a devastating loss in the 126-pound quarterfinals to dominate his blood-round bout and clinch his first-ever trip to the podium.

After his shot backfired against Fairland junior C.J. Graham in the quarterfinals — leading to a 12-second pin — Wrobel dominated Crestview's Qwintin Howard. The Crestwood senior racked up four points in the first period, five in the second and eight in the third en route to a 17-2 win.

McKibben, a Rootstown junior, also clinched his first podium appearance with a 4-0 win over St. Paul freshman Rafael Gross. In a fiercely-contested blood-round bout, the Rovers 157-pounder flattened Gross for a second-period reversal, then bowled Gross over for two huge insurance points midway through the third.

12:40 p.m.: Manchester's Jaydyn McKinney tears through to the semifinals

Check that: Five local girls will wrestle in the semifinals. One could be forgiven for missing defending state champion Jaydyn McKinney of Manchester, as her first two matches lasted less than 30 seconds.

After setting a new state record for fastest pin Friday in 13 seconds, McKinney just missed tying her record in the quarterfinals. She pinned Harrison's Lilly Lyon in 14 seconds with a side headlock.

12:27 p.m: Mogadore girls send two to the semifinals

Mogadore girls will have a pair of semifinal wrestlers tonight.

For the second straight bout, Wildcat 155-pounde MJ Schellenbarger scored a come-from-behind pin. This time, she stuck Tusky Valley's Tori Wilson in 1:55 to earn her first All-Ohio spot.

At 175 pounds, Mia Gaetjens earned her second straight All-Ohio place with a 5-3 win over Raegan Hites of Benjamin Logan.

Mogadore nearly had all three of their wrestlers advance, but 130-pounder Kai Gaetjens lost a tight 1-0 loss to Hamilton Township's Sierra Sanborn.

Greater Akron/Canton will have four girls wrestling in tonight's semifinals.

12:16 p.m.: Walsh Jesuit and Perry earn first girls All-Ohio wrestlers

Walsh Jesuit and Perry have long histories of success at the state wrestling tournament. However, both powers have never had a female All-Ohioan until now.

Walsh Jesuit's Bella Mbappe punched her ticket the podium and the semifinals thanks to a pin in 3:18 over Western Reserve's Kelsey Lasch at 115 pounds.

Meanwhile at 125, Perry Emma Shephard had to go to overtime, but go the winning takedown to score an 10-6 win over Marysville's Lauren Mobley. She will be the Panthers' first All-Ohio girls.

11:57 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 175 pounds, 190 pounds, 215 and 285 pounds

At 175, Medina’s Blaine Chrisman’s pins Caige Horak in 4:28 in a matchup of area wrestlers.

At 190, Colin Wooldridge of LaSalle beat Brecksville’s Riley McPherson 11-8 in overtime.

At 215, Will Adkins of Moeller beat Perry’s Mike Millin 3-1.

Area heavyweights rolled with Perry’s Aidan Fockler pinning Midview’s Austin Dye in 1:24. Wadsworth’s Aaron Ries beat Shaker Heights’ Mustafa Woodi 3-2 in 30/30s.

11:49 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 157 pounds and 165 pounds

Perry’s Marshall Geckler beat Mt. Vernon’s Jake Taylor 9-3 at 157.

At 165, Landon Johnson beat Pickerington North’s Donavyn Watts 9-3 and Brecksville’s Evan Rizzo beat St. Edward’s Aiden Peterson 10-8.

11:44 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 144 pounds and 150 pounds

First we’ll start with the biggest upset of the day. Brecksville’s Zack Aquila beats two-time state champ Ty Wilson of Coffman 5-4 in the second 30/30 overtimes. Wadsworth’s Jaxon Joy rolls 22-6 over Dublin Gerome’s Ian Cho and Perry’s Brennan Warwick loses 12-3 to Moeller’s Londen Murphy.

At 144, Nordonia’s Israel Petite beats Upper Arlington’s Andrew Myers 12-5 and North Royalton’s Mannix Wasco beats Moeller’s Stone Busler 4-3.

11:38 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 132 pounds and 138 pounds

At 132, Stow’s Robert Davis saw his undefeated season come to a close when he was pinned by Whitmer’s Jaiden Sarabia. Perry’s Nate Dulcie was pinned in 94 seconds by world champion Marcus Blaze of Perrysburg.

At 138, Perry’s Charles Curtis beat St. John’s Jesuit’s Kaiden Soto 7-2. Cincinnati Princeton’s Micah Cottrell beat Wadsworth’s Kade Mellon 5-3 in overtime and Brecksville’s Jace Jett lost 6-3 to state runner-up Kade Brown of St. Edward.

11:29 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 120 pounds and 126 pounds

Brecksville’s Brett Stanley fell to reigning state champion Karson Brown 17-1 and Brunswick’s Eddie Skiba fell by pin in 3:04 to Oregon Clay, Garrison Weisner.

Brecksville’s Harrison Haffner fell 6-0 to 2002 state champ Cole Evans of Perrysburg.

11:24 a.m. Your Division I Greater Akron/Canton area quarterfinal update for 106 and 113 pounds

Highland's Brandon Bickerton puts on a takedown clinic in a 12-5 win over Dermarco Kates of Colerain. Wadsworth’s Blake Frantz knocks out Olentangy’s Luke Mokros of Olentangy with a 4-2 decision to reach the semifinal at 106.

At 113, Brecksville’s Rylan Seacrist pins Westlake’s Brad Cerankosky in 67 seconds, while Perry’s Logan Seibert wins by decision 6-2. Aurora’s Johnny Green falls to reigning state champion Ethan Timar 9-1.

11:20 A.M. Greater Akron wrestler breaks a state record

If you’ve watched Buckeye’s Eddie Neitenbach, you know he’s a pinning machine.

Well, on Saturday he broke a state record when he pinned Bexley’s Muhammad Jallaq in 5 seconds in the Division II quarterfinals at 190.

That broke the mark held by Delta’s Rob Sintobin, Jonathan Alder’s Randy Evans and Wester Jefferson’s Josh Doherty of 8 seconds.

11:15 a.m. St. Vincent-St. Mary goes 1-3 in quarterfinals

STVM's Christian Osborne kept his remarkable run going. The Irish 120-pounder defeated Franklin's Dareyan Egner 13-5 to reach the semifinals.

However, he was the lone STVM wrestler to advance, as Wade Taggart (138), Rylan Hurley (157) and Andy Vanscoy (215) each lost.

Greater Akron/Canton will have four semifinalists in Division II.

11:11 a.m.: Alliance's Aidan Mozden gets 100th win to reach semifinal

It took overtime, but Alliance heavyweight Aidan Mozden is in the semifinal.

Mozden scored the winning takedown in sudden victory to score an 8-6 win over Dayton Oakwood's Carter Stack in his quarterfinal. The victory was the 100th win of Mozden's career.

Alliance also have 190-pounder Jackson Eddy wrestle the quarterfinals, but Eddy defaulted due to injury against Columbus St. Francis DeSales' Lincoln Shulaw.

11:03 p.m.; Woodridge's Steven Duffy breaks through to semifinals, but Minerva's Hunter Dietrich falls

Woodridge's Steven Duffy earned his first berth in the semifinals at 175 pounds. Duffy scored a 7-3 win over Wapakoneta's Wyatt Buell to advance.

Duffy said he had hoped to face his friend Hunter Dietrich of Minerva in the semifinals. However, Dietrich lost his quarterfinal match 9-6 to Rossford's Ayden Wilson.

10:34 a.m. Louisville's Kolten Barker earns first semifinal berth.

Kolten Barker is bound for the semifinal. The Louisville senior pulled out a 5-3 win over Graham's Blaine Demarco. A takedown in the second period and reversal in the third proved the winning margin.

Barker advances after finishing seventh last year.

10:05 a.m.: Garfield senior Keegan Sell moves on to semifinal

With a beautiful single just seconds into the match and a couple of perfectly executed doubles in the second period, Garfield senior 190-pounder Keegan Sell rolled to a 9-2 quarterfinal victory over Evergreen senior Grant Richardson. This marks the fourth straight year in which Sell advanced to the state semifinals, which will start at 5:30 p.m.

9:52 a.m.: Manchester's Evan Kusmits, Rootstown's Tristen McKibben fall in quarterfinals

Both Evan Kusmits and Tristen McKibben fell in quarterfinals to top-three ranked wrestlers. Kusmits, a Manchester junior, lost to Legacy Christian's Nathan Attisano, 9-0. McKibben, a Rootstown junior, lost to Barnesville's Skyler King, 15-0.

Both will wrestle in the consolation second round, which starts at 12:05 p.m.

9:42 a.m.: Crestwood's J.P. Wrobel falls in quarterfinal

Crestwood senior J.P. Wrobel seemed to have his opening shot lined up in his state quarterfinal debut. Instead, Fairland junior C.J. Graham was able to obtain leverage and push Wrobel down for the pin in 11 seconds. Wrobel will next wrestle in the second round of the consolation bracket, which picks up at 12:05 p.m.
