Commentary from Kansas City Chiefs’ Game 2 win over the Jaguars: game tracker

Nick Tre. Smith/Special to the Star

After a Week 1 loss on Thursday Night Football, the Kansas City Chiefs had a few extra days to bounce back and recover. And with some added firepower — hello, Chris Jones and Travis Kelce — KC held on to defeat Jacksonville 17-9 in a sloppy game.

Chris Jones, who missed the season opener as his holdout spilled in the regular season, returned and was a force on defense. His play was one of the main KC takeaways.

Travis Kelce returned after a knee injury kept him out Week 1. He made a touchdown reception, but it was a lackluster day for the Kansas City offense, which mustered only 17 points.

Star beat writer Blair Kerkhoff’s grade card reflects that very thing.

The Chiefs survived, though, thanks to timely plays on both sides of the ball. Kansas City improved to 1-1, recovering from last week’s loss to the Lions.

Let’s get to the action.
