Live results: Updates and analysis from Day 1 of Iowa boys state wrestling tournament

On Nov. 13, 2023, the first Iowa high school wrestling practices of the season took place.

Now, a little over three months later, the Iowa state boys wrestling tournament kicks off at Wells Fargo Arena. In that time, some athletes wrestled in upwards of 40 bouts. That’s about three matches a week, not including the winter break and delays due to inclement weather.

Thirty-four total wrestlers enter the tournament with undefeated records in the 2023-24 season, including Osage senior Tucker Stangel (50-0) and Fort Dodge sophomore superstar Dreshaun Ross (43-0).

At the end of four action-packed days, 42 individual state champions – one each in 14 weight class across Class 3A, 2A and 1A – will be crowned and three team titles will be won.

The first day of the state wrestling tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Follow along here for updates throughout the opening day of the Iowa high school state wrestling tournament.
