Each state gets two senators that serve six-year terms in Congress in Washington. Missouri’s current senators are Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and Republican Seen. Roy Blunt. Sen. Blunt is retiring, so his seat is open this year.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has been declared the winner of the competitive field. The two other leading Republican candidates were former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler.

On the Democratic side, the race is largely between philanthropist Trudy Busch Valentine and former Marine Lucas Kunce. Spencer Toder, a St. Louis area real estate agent, is also trying to remain in the conversation.

The winners in the Republican and Democratic primaries will face off in the general election in November.
