'Live' Fans Are Concerned Kelly Ripa Is Leaving After Her 'Generation Gap' IG News
With over three decades in the Hollywood industry, Kelly Ripa has had a remarkable career. Most notably, she became a household name when she accepted the role of cohost on the now-Live With Kelly and Ryan. While the longtime daytime TV show has had several cohosts since she started in 2001 (she is currently sharing the screen with American Idol star Ryan Seacrest), she has earned a place in viewer's hearts over the years.
Lately, Kelly has started to explore different ventures away from the Live stage. After the 4th of July weekend, she kicked off her new ABC game show Generation Gap, where juniors and seniors pair up to answer pop culture questions. With the former All My Children star's career continuing to flourish, fans can't help but wonder: Is Kelly leaving Live?
"What about your show in the [mornings]," one person wrote on Instagram. "Can’t wait to see it. I hope you’re not leaving Live with Kelly and [Ryan]," another added.
To be clear, Kelly has not said anything about leaving Live. Although she hasn't publicly addressed juggling the two different jobs, it seems like she is learning to take some time away from the popular talk show.
Earlier this month, she opened up to Ryan about her and husband, Mark Consuelos, going away to Utah for vacation. It was a memorable trip because it was the first time the couple wasn't accompanied by their children: Michael, Lola and Joaquin.
"This is our first vacation in 25 years without children and parents … It's usually us, with the kids or … kit and caboodle," she told Ryan during the July 5 episode of Live. "So Mark and I were like, 'What are we going to do without the kids?' And the kids were like, 'What are you going to do without us!? We're your whole lives!' And I was like, 'Wrong again, kids.'"
Through it all, Kelly has been nothing if not a consistent host, voicing her opinions and bringing humanity to the host's chair. It's this relatability her viewers continue to rely on and keep coming back to.
Speaking with Variety for her 20th anniversary on Live, Kelly revealed her thought about the show's success. “It’s not just about me,” she told the outlet. “It really is not. I don’t think I’m the show. I think the show is the show.”
What's more, during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., she got the chance to show viewers more of her true self. "My overall willingness to let all my foibles unfold and put all of my imperfections out there," she explained to the magazine.
It's difficult to say for certain if Kelly has thought about leaving Live for good. For now, we can only hope to see her greet viewers in the morning with her anecdotes and make them laugh at night with jokes.
