Listen Now! Dolphins reporter breaks down Miami's upcoming showdown with Chiefs in Germany

When the Miami Dolphins take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Germany on Sunday, it will be the first of back-to-back weeks with games in Frankfurt, Germany.

The venue is Deutsch Bank Park.

The trip from Miami to Frankfurt is roughly 4,800 miles. It’s surprisingly about 100 miles less from Kansas City.

The Dolphins are coming in after a win over the New England Patriots, while the Chiefs took a bad loss to the Denver Broncos.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (17) flips the ball in the air as he scores a touchdown against the New England Patriots during the second half of an NFL game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Oct. 29, 2023.

The Dolphins haven’t fared well overseas. They’re 1-4.

They played in the first London game in 2007, losing to the New York Giants 13-10.

The Dolphins returned to London in 2014, defeating the Oakland Raiders 38-14.

In 2015, they lost to the New York Jets 27-14.

The Dolphins were blanked by the New Orleans Saints 20-0 in 2017.

The last time the Dolphins traveled overseas was in 2021 when they lost to Jacksonville, giving Urban Meyer his first win as Jaguars head coach.

While the U.K. hasn’t been kind, the Dolphins are hoping to start a new narrative in Deutschland.

They head into the game with the Chiefs 2.5-point underdogs.

Injuries have been mounting for the Dolphins, but with Tua Tagovailoa behind center and Tyreek Hill streaking down the sidelines, Miami always has a chance to win.

Can the Dolphins find good fortune in Germany, or will they be heading back to Miami with a post-Oktoberfest hangover?

To help break down this game I welcome back Hal Habib, Dolphins reporter and columnist for the Palm Beach Post.

Hal’s been covering this team for four decades and while he isn’t able to travel for this game in Germany, he’s been in London for multiple Dolphins games.

He’s the latest guest on “The *State* of Florida Sports Podcast, powered by the USA Today Network.

Hal will break down the Dolphins’ schedule, from when they traveled to German, what their practice schedule is like and what they should expect leading into their international game.

"If you showed me this practice schedule and just put your hand over the words 'Frankfurt, Germany,' I wouldn't have thought anything unusual is going on," Hal says during the podcast. "It looks like a typical practice week in Miami Gardens."

He’ll also update us on the injury status of multiple Dolphins, which is starting to look up, especially with the return of Jalen Ramsey.

"The Dolphins might actually be getting healthier as the season goes on," Hal says. "I know there's still a way to go with some guys coming back, but, you know, Terron Armstead is on the brink of making his return. If he can hold up through the rest of the season, that'll be big plus at left tackle."

And given the celebrity entourage that’s been following the Chiefs around, we’ll find out from Hal what celebrities can be found in Miami at Dolphins games.
