LinkedIn, a social networking site for professionals of various industries, is often used to find jobs or internships, strengthen professional relationships or learn new industry skills, according to LinkedIn.com. Established in 2003, the site helps create opportunities for users by "showcasing your unique professional story through experience, skills, and education."

It's not a dating site, but it might also help in a user's personal life. According to DatingNews.com, a recent study revealed 52% of 505 survey participants used networking sites like LinkedIn or social media to set up a date.

This was especially common for those between 35-40, with 61% doing so. It was also the most used dating method for participants 25-34, with 49% of participants using LinkedIn or similar sites to enhance their dating life.

While those in the 20-24 age range preferred meeting people at bars or clubs, networking sites weren't far off, tied in second place with social events at 47%.

Is online dating safe?

According to Pew Research, online dating is especially prevalent for those younger than 30, with 53% of survey participants from the 2022 study in the age range, and 37% between ages 30 and 49. Generally, feelings about dating apps are mixed, with only 48% of survey respondents saying it's a safe way to meet people. Women, especially, are more likely to report a lack of safety. However, in Kentucky, it could be a more positive experience.

According to PrivacyJournal.net, Kentucky is the fourth safest state for online dating, based on 2023 and 2024 data. Per 100,000 people, Kentucky saw 4.8 romance scams, 92 incidents of identity theft, 169 cases of fraud, 207 registered sex offenders, 627.1 STD reports and 214.1 violent crime reports.
