Lindsay Lohan’s new movie Irish Wish gives viewers more than another enchanting rom-com to indulge in. Filmed entirely in Ireland, the Netflix movie—which has a fantastical Freaky Friday energy—offers a tour of the country’s sprawling estates and sweeping landscapes. From a historic house with elegant interiors to natural attractions like the Cliffs of Moher, the tale unfolds across a handful of dreamy environments. Ahead, get the complete run-down of the standout filming locations—many of which fans can visit.
Killruddery House
The Kennedy family’s mansion is portrayed by Killruddery House. Set on 800 acres in Wicklow, the historic home is a private estate, visitor attraction, and working farm. Owned and lived in by the Brabazon family since 1618, the house boasts a Tudor-Revival style exterior combined with the original 17th-century structure. The interiors feature seemingly endless charming details including stained glass windows, a domed ceiling, stucco work, and family heirloom paintings. The orangery remains a prominent interior backdrop in Irish Wish as does the delightful dining room and the library room, which is the only 17th-century room in the house that's still intact.
On the property, the French formal gardens are expansive. They were created by a disciple of landscape designer André le Nôtre, who was the principal gardener to King Louis XIV and the Palace of Versailles. Flowering woodland, ancient trees, a natural amphitheater, long ponds, and acres of grass enhance the estate’s idyllic setting.
Today, as a sustainable, bio-diverse farm, the property produces free-range meat, fruit, and vegetables for the house's kitchen and the estate's Farm Shop. Along with booking house and garden tours, visitors can stop by the Pizza Shed or The Grain Store to enjoy meals made with fresh ingredients grown on the property.
Powerscourt Estate
Some driving sequences tied to the Kennedy family mansion were actually shot at Powerscourt Estate. Located in Wicklow, the house on the property was originally a medieval castle. It was transformed into a 68-room mansion by 1741, and the most recent renovations took place in 1996. While visitors can’t tour the home, they can wander through the more than 47 acres of formal gardens, terraces, ornamental lakes, hollows, and nature pathways. The estate also has a distillery (where Paul’s book signing takes place), a café, a shop full of items by Irish makers, interior design services, and a pet cemetery.
Lough Tay
The "wishing chair," which is crucial to the movie's plot, is located near Lough Tay. Also known as Guinness Lake, the small body of water is blanketed with white sand on one side—making it resemble a pint of the signature Irish drink. Since the lake is situated on land owned by the Guinness family in the Wicklow Mountains, it can’t be visited by the public. Luckily, tourists can still see the lake from afar at viewpoints in the surrounding area.
Cliffs of Moher
Perhaps the most well-known tourist destination in Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher set the scene for a special moment in Irish Wish. The famous towering, vertical cliffs along the west Clare coast overlook the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands. Perfect for breezy walks, the ethereal setting is a must-add to every Irish itinerary.
Westport, Ireland
The picturesque town of Westport in County Mayo stands in as the village in the movie. Stone bridges connect to tree-lined promenades over the Carrowbeg River, setting a scene for leisurely strolls. The town center is lined with colorful shop facades and imbued with history. Visitors can pop into local shops or grab a pint at one of the many welcoming pubs.
Additional filming locations include The Clarence Hotel, once owned by U2’s Bono and The Edge, where Maddie and Paul have drinks at the bar; Ireland West Airport Knock; Hollywood Inn, where James stays in town; Tutty's Pub in Hollywood, Ireland, where Maddie and James pass time; the Wild Atlantic Way; and the countryside of County Mayo.
