A lightning strike at a Derbyshire hospital led to disruption to health services.

The thunderstorm passed over Chesterfield Royal Hospital at about 19:45 BST on Sunday.

Health bosses said while nobody was hurt by the strike, systems and processes across the site were affected.

The severe weather also led to an increased number of calls to the hospital’s switchboard.

While the trust said it reached “maximum capacity” and experienced delays in answering calls, patients were advised to still attend to access emergency care.

By 22:15, the trust said all systems and processes had returned to normal.

A spokesperson thanked patients for their support and patience during the incident.
