Light rain, possible thunderstorms to hit North Texas this weekend, weather service says
North Texas can expect cool temperatures and periodic light rain this Friday and Saturday with the possibility of storms on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Cloudy skies are forecast for most of the weekend including “periodic light rain and drizzle” for the Dallas-Fort Worth area and cities including Sherman, Stephenville, Waco and Palestine, the NWS announced Thursday.
The high for DFW on Friday will be around 46 degrees with a low of 44 degrees.
Saturday will see a high around 58 degrees and a low of 54 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to warm up Sunday to a high around 74 degrees.
A storm system will sweep across the Plains, possibly bringing thunderstorms to parts of North Texas on Sunday evening going into the night including the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Gainesville, Paris, Graham, Cisco, Waco, Killeen, and Palestine.
A storm or two may become strong to severe, with wind gusts and large hail possible, primarily north of Interstate 20 and west of I-35.
“There is still much uncertainty as to whether any storms could be severe, so check back this weekend as we refine these details,” the NWS in Fort Worth said Thursday.
A strong cap may remain in place ahead of the front.
It will be breezy and dry by Monday and highs will be in the 70s with “plenty of sunshine” returning, the weather service said.
