We'll say it: biopics can be boring. I mean, how many biopics about wartime politicians or famous singers do we need? The films are generally not exactly accurate, as they often cut around the more mundane parts of history. They dramatize reality for entertainment purposes, but provide less context than say, a written biography by a dedicated, diligent author. So who better to make biopics a little more fun than Weird Al Yankovic?

A blatantly false biopic–for example, Madonna is a central character, but in real life, she and Yankovic only met once in passing–Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is a direct parody to the musician biopics that are often propped up as shoe-ins for Oscar contention (see: Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, Judy, etc). Think of Weird as the spiritual successor to the very underrated (and very, very funny) Walk Hard, which starred John C. Reilly and was a pitch-perfect parody of musical biopics. Weird stars Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al, Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey, Julianne Nicholson and Toby Huss as Al's parents, and Jack Black as Wolfman Jack.

The film tracks Weird Al from his humble beginnings to his current level of renown, and is just as strange and unexpected as the parodies he's made throughout his entire career. And, of course, the movie includes singing and a cameo from the real Weird Al himself.

So, where can you watch the weirdest musician biopic in recent years? Is it on Netflix or Prime Video or HBO Max? And when does Weird: The Al Yankovic Story come out? We've got everything you need to know about Weird below.
