One of the biggest films of the fall will surely be Challengers, a tennis drama directed by Luca Guadagnino (who made Call Me By Your Name). The movie features a love triangle between characters played by Zendaya, Josh O 'Connor (of The Crown fame), and Mike Faist (who starred in West Side Story). Here's everything we know so far about the film.

Written by Justin Kuritzkes and directed by Guadagnino, Challengers is part sports film, part comedy, part romantic drama. Here's the plot summary:"Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O 'Connor) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win."

Zendaya trained with former tennis star Brad Gilbert.

"She’s wonderful," Guadagnino told Variety. "I mean, wow. We edited the movie and we almost actually don’t use any of her double. She’s so good." All three leads, the director added "spent like three months working very hard—technically, athletically."

"I think those three characters in that movie are beautifully complex and really fucked-up people that I love very much. And a sports film, why not?" Guadagnino told IndieWire.

The film premieres September 15, 2023.

It's expected to premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival in early September, and then hit theaters shortly thereafter. As Challengers is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) film, which is now owned by Amazon, the film will then be available to stream on Prime Video at a later date.
