‘The Voice’ Season 24 Recap: Who Went Home and Who Made it Through to the Top 9

The Voice kicked off the first results show of season 24 tonight when the Top 12 learned which nine of them would be going through and which three of them would be going home.

The Top 12 consists of coach John Legend’s Azán, Lila Forde and Mac Royals; Reba McEntire’s Jacquie Roar, Jordan Rainer and Ruby Leigh; Gwen Stefani’s BIAS, Kara Tenae and Tanner Massey; and Niall Horan’s Huntley, Mara Justine, and Nini Iris.

The way the results worked was as follows: The artists with the Top 8 votes were automatically put through and then the remaining four had to sing in the Instant Save for America’s second vote.

Here’s how the night broke down:

The night kicked off with Gwen performing her new single “True Babe.”

Then the Top 12 were called to the stage by host Carson Daly, who revealed the first three artists who were safe: Mac Royals, BIAS, and Ruby Leigh.

After some chitchat, Carson announced the next two safe artists: Mara Justine and Lila Forde.

Before more results were announced, there was an entertainment break with Reba singing her new single, “Seven Minutes in Heaven,” which struck an emotional chord with her fellow judges.

Next, the remaining seven artists returned to the stage to learn their fate, as Carson disclosed the remaining three automatically going through: Huntley, Jacquie Roar, and the final artist was Nini Iris.

That means that Azán, Jordan, Kara and Tanner all had to sing for the Instant Save.

Jordan took the stage first with the upbeat tune “Blame It On Your Heart” by Patty Loveless.

Niall said: “I can’t understand how Jordan is in this position. As far as consistency, that was an amazing performance.”

Reba said: “Absolutely agree. It’s a shame if she goes home tonight. You have worked your butt off. Your personality is perfect for America.”

Singing second was Azán with “No Tears Left to Cry” by Ariana Grande.

Niall said: “It is always so sad to see some of your former team members in this position. That was an incredible song.”

John said: “What an incredible journey Azán has had on this show. I think that resilience along with incredible charisma, America vote for Azán.”

Third was Tanner with “More Than Words” by Extreme.

Gwen said: “There was a little tuning [issue]. I think you’re so gifted. For you to come out here at 19 years old, your gift is so real, your tone is so beautiful. This is a moment in time, and you have your whole life ahead of you. I love that song.”

The final performance by Kara was Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time.”

Gwen said: “That was ridiculous. If America doesn’t vote, I am going to walk off the stage. That was so beautiful. That was unbelievable.”

Then voting took place and when the results were tabulated, the winner of the Instant Save was Jordan Rainer

The Voice semifinals will be Monday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
