A dedicated veterinary student has taken to social media to share the inspiring journey of nursing an obese Golden Retriever back to health. Frannie, the dog, has shed an impressive 31 pounds in a mere two months under the diligent guidance of her caretaker.

Annika Bram, a student enrolled at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, has dedicated several months to the rehabilitation of Frannie, as per ABC News. Frannie is a Golden Retriever grappling with mobility challenges because of her obesity.

The 24-year-old student stated, “I didn’t really realize the extent of how bad off she was. I couldn’t get her to stand up.” Continuing, she added, “She had no energy left in her. She couldn’t walk.”

In December 2023, Frannie lived outdoors on the concrete and weighed 125 pounds, as per Newsweek. In addition, the 8-year-old dog had multiple sores and wounds. Tragically, her condition deteriorated to the point where she was unable to sit up, stand, or walk independently, ultimately leading her to be euthanized.

However, Bram refused to accept this fate for Frannie. Rover’s Retreat Home initially rescued the Golden Retriever, following which Bram adopted her.

At first, Bram had to carry her since Frannie couldn’t walk at all, according to ABC News. In Bram’s words, “She was just so heavy…I had literally blisters on my hands from picking her up.”

Apart from the wounds, the dog had hypothyroidism, a condition known to contribute to significant weight gain.

Bram chronicles Frannie’s weight-loss journey on Instagram, where she has over 300K followers. In two months, Frannie has shed nearly 31 pounds. Moreover, she even walked up to half a mile recently, signaling promising strides in her rehabilitation.

Upon first meeting Frannie, Bram was still mourning the recent passing of her dog Georgia. Bram had also aided Georgia in losing a remarkable 85 pounds. Thus, she felt that she was meant to help Frannie too.
