Tyreek Hill having fun with Dolphins new CB Eli Apple: 'Now I get to embarrass him everyday'

MIAMI GARDENS — All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill had no problem with the Dolphins signing one of his rivals/antagonists, cornerback Eli Apple. In fact, he gave the move his blessing when coach Mike McDaniel called to give him the news.

"Now I get to embarrass him every day," Hill said Friday, clearly joking.

Apple, signed after Jalen Ramsey suffered a knee injury that required surgery that will keep him sidelined until December, has upset a lot of folks in the NFL. That is something he's done throughout his seven years in the league, much of it through social media. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce once said Apple “talks a lot of (bleep).”

"Eli is a great guy," Hill said. "I know we had some battles, but at the end of the day we're all trying to win, we're all trying to get better.

"I was fired up (to be) able to add another competitor to this team and just make us better, in the long run, having that cornerback depth."

Hill is craving that chance to face Apple one-on-one. He said it hasn't happened because Xavien Howard or Kader Kohou or Noah Igbinoghene keep calling him out.

"When 'X' calls me out, I feel like if I don't go, the team's going to look at me, like, 'you scared?'" Hill said.

And what will happen when that day comes?

"I'm going to try to bully him off the line, I'm going to try to push him off the line," Hill said. "I'm going to win the rep."

Hill, entering his second year in Miami, appreciated the heads-up from McDaniel before Apple joined the team. He just wishes the call had not come so late.

"I was asleep when he called me," Hill said. "I'm like, 'Ya'll calling me and I got to be out there at 6:30 in the morning. What's going on?' I thought I was in trouble or something. I'm like, 'Man, ya'll going to cut me or something?'

" 'No, we're going to sign Eli Apple.' I was like, 'All right, cool.' "
