Fall trends for 2024 are currently going viral on TikTok, and there's one I can't get off my mind (or out of my shopping carts): Hourglass tops. This style is all about accentuating the waist with a fitted bodice and subtle flare around the hips. Remember when peplum tops were a thing? Think of this as a more sophisticated, sleek version of that.
Editors are seeing tons of vest silhouettes fitting this shape, as well as button downs, too. The tops can be paired with just about anything, from trousers and jeans to skirts this fall season. But it doesn't stop there—TikTok creator @autumnmarieraphael explains that we'll be seeing the silhouette exhibited in blazers, coats and sweaters, too. Plus, you can even achieve the shape with a bold belt.

1. SNDYS X Revolve Emiliana Top
This is my number one choice for achieving this sleek style. It's got brassy buttons from the neckline to the waist and a cute little tie on the back. The side seams and thick twill fabric help this vest hold its shape, so it will sit exactly how it's intended to based on the shape. Meghan Markle recently wore a similar top with a halter neck and collar, resulting in a preppier, business-casual aesthetic.
2. Faithfull the Brand Boe Tunic Top
Opt for a strapless version of this style for a night out (you can always add a layer if it's chilly). This one is 100 percent linen, so it's very lightweight and breathable. It's also a great choice for those earlier fall days when the weather is still pretty warm. It's a bit longer and would look super cute with a mini skirt that peeks out below the hemline. It has a stretchy back panel and a hidden zipper.
3. Maeve Cardigan Sweater
Keep the sweater weather vibes with this hourglass cardigan. It's cozy, yet the deep V-neck keeps it feeling flirty, not frumpy. Plus, it's made of a wool-nylon blend so you get all the warmth and stretch without losing its shape. (And if you're not into beige, there are two other colors available, FYI.)
4. Gap Modern Polo Shirt
I picture this top styled with a pair of jeans and sneakers for a casual day look. It's intended to be worn with the bottom couple of buttons undone to achieve the hourglass effect. I love the collar and ribbed material to keep it looking sleek and preppy, even though the style is more on the laid back side. It's stretchy and hits right at the hip line for a shorter silhouette.
5. Exquise The Tobie Pleated Blouse
From the pinstripes to the pleats to the collar, this top has all the makings of a posh blouse for the office or out and about. I love how the fitted waist pleats flare out and continue to the bottom of the hem. The bunched chest then stays relaxed all the way out to the sleeves, so you get equal parts fitted and flared. It's a cotton blend material, so it's likely to be breathable and airy for the early days of autumn.
