TikTok's Fridgescaping Trend Proves That No Place Is Too Mundane for Décor
Learn all about the trend that has people decorating the inside of their refrigerators.
An organized fridge makes it easier to see your inventory, which saves time and helps eliminate food waste. But recently, social media users have been cleaning out this utilitarian space for a different reason—fridgescaping. The viral TikTok trend is all about decorating the inside of the refrigerator, proving that no space is too boring or practical to decorate.

What Is Fridgescaping?
While the concept of creating an aesthetically pleasing refrigerator isn't new, fridgescaping takes it to an entirely new level. The trend involves decorating the inside of your fridge with flowers, framed photos, vases, and other treasures to make the space look more beautiful and inviting.
Participants of the trend even go so far as choosing a rotating theme for their fridge. In one video, TikTok user Lynzi Judish transformed her fridge into a Bridgerton-inspired tableau, which she coined "Fridgerton." While donning a pair of lace gloves, she filled her shelves with regencycore knickknacks, like miniature porcelain busts, framed photos of women from the era, and plenty of flowers. Judish has also created fridge designs inspired by The Hobbit and Practical Magic.
Beyond decorating, food storage is also an important aspect of fridgescaping. Rather than leaving groceries in the packages they were purchased in, fridegescapers decant their foods and beverages into vintage bowls, ornate butter dishes, thrifted vases, and baskets for an eclectic look.

Benefits of Fridgescaping
While the trend is largely about aesthetics, it has a few practical benefits as well.
Helps Eliminate Food Waste
One of the key elements of fridgescaping is finding ways to incorporate produce into your design—asparagus in a mason jar, berries in a porcelain basket, fruit in a wicker bowl, herbs in propagation vases, etc. Having a dedicated display makes your food more accessible and appealing—plus no more lost blueberries in the back of the fridge. Foodscaping aficionados say that they waste less food when it is artfully styled.
Makes Cooking More Exciting
What's more, some fridgescapers believe that the process makes them more excited to cook with the ingredients they take such care decorating. In another TikTok posted by Judish, she confirmed this sentiment: "My husband and I are cooking more than ever. We’ve always cooked a lot, and cooking has been something we’ve enjoyed doing together. However, having so many beautiful things in the refrigerator and on display where you can see it well has led to us being more creative with our meals," she wrote.
Keeps Your Refrigerator Clean
Fridgescaping also helps with cleanliness, especially if you redecorate weekly. The process of fridgescaping typically starts with a deep clean of the fridge, which ensures that it's neat and tidy when you fill it with groceries and décor. "Now that I am switching things in and out of my refrigerator and displaying things, I naturally want it to look nice," Judish wrote in the same TikTok post. "Because the refrigerator is so clean all the time, all I need to do is wipe down the shelves. It takes 30 seconds."
How to Start Fridgescaping
There's no right or wrong way to decorate your fridge. Typically, the best place to start is by removing everything from your fridge and giving it a thorough clean. Then, you can begin adding everything back inside the appliance, thoughtfully selecting where you want each item to go. This is a great time to clean and prep any produce you want to display. Finally, you can add in your accessories–a framed photo, a vase filled with flowers, and anything else that appeals to you and your fridgescaping aesthetic.
