This Three-Year-Old Girl Had Her Birthday Party at IKEA and It’s the Cutest Thing Ever
How much do you love IKEA? Sure, the average design enthusiast would spend hours playing house in the retailer's Scandi-chic display kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms—and, of course, chowing down on its Swedish meatballs. But would you want to have your birthday party there? A three-year-old named Lucy loves the store so much that her mom threw a surprise birthday party at IKEA's Tampa location—and recorded it for her TikTok profile, @Cyaatia.
Lucy, who was dressed up in IKEA's signature colors and given her very own name badge, was thrilled when she was led to a private room that was packed with her friends as well as lots of blue and yellow decorations. "She's never been to a surprise party," her mom says. (Balloons? Streamers? Tablecloths? Check, check, and check.) After the birthday girl and her friends enjoyed a balanced diet of pizza, macaroni and cheese, and the IKEA meatballs, they embarked on a scavenger hunt around the store.
But perhaps the biggest thrill came when it was time for the cake. Not only did IKEA's staff sing happy birthday to Lucy, but they also surprised her with an employee shirt to go with her badge. (For extra awwws, she also received a giant birthday card signed by all of the Tampa store's employees.) Meanwhile, the adults all received gift cards while kids received goodie bags that will filled to the brim with IKEA merch.
While there's no denying that Lucy's birthday party was downright adorable, TikTok is amazed that IKEA hosts birthday parties in the first place. And, to be honest, everyone now wants their very own IKEA party. "I want this as a 25-year-old," one viewer wrote. "This is the best idea," another IKEA fan commented. "My kids (and us parents) LOVE IKEA. My daughter would go nuts!" A third follower asked, "I’m 24, can I also have my bday at IKEA?"
Well, it depends. As far as we can see, IKEA doesn't actively promote birthday parties on its website, so you might need to check with your nearest location for availability. But, if all else fails, we love what one TikToker did: "I had my 17th birthday at IKEA in 2009! Except we just brought a bunch of board games and I picked out a staged living room for us to hang out in."
