Heidi Klum favorite, singing school janitor Richard Goodall, makes the top 10 on “America's Got Talent”
See every act that's still in the game.
The America's Got Talent audience has spoken: singing school janitor Richard Goodall will compete in the show's final round.
Judge Heidi Klum, who buzzed her Golden Buzzer when he auditioned before her and fellow judgesSimon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara, told him he deserved his success.
"I am so, so proud of you," Klum said. She added, "America got it right."
Goodall and five other acts survived the eliminations on Thursday's episode. Based on public votes, comedian Learnmore Jonasi; the dance duo of Roni Sagi and her dog, Rhythm; quick-change magician Solange Kardinaly; dance group Brent Street; and drone act Sky Elements all moved forward.
Cowell, who was speechless after the latter performed a tribute to a team member's late daughter, reiterated how impressed he had been with them on Wednesday.
"It really, genuinely was spectacular," he said, "and I was thinking the final wouldn't be the same without them."
But next week's final will go on without several others, who were sent home. They included several singing acts: Alex Sampson, Ashes and Arrows, Pranysqa Mishra, and Reid Wilson, but also dentist-by-day aerialist Kelsey Jane and mystical magician Young Min.
Here's a closer look at the acts still in competition:
Airfootworks
These acrobats from Japan caused a serious stir on the Sept. 11 performance show. First, their act, which featured four people using a high bar to appear to effortlessly dance in the air, wowed. Members spun, kicked, and flipped against a dark, otherworldly background. Even more surprising, their Aug. 27 performance prompted Mandel to award the group his Live Show Golden Buzzer, just as Cowell attempted to steal it and hit it himself.
Brent Street
The dance group previously received a vote of confidence from Mandel, courtesy of his Golden Buzzer. "You are going all the way!" he told them on the Sept. 3 quarterfinals show, after their performance to a Billie Eilish track. In the Sept. 11 semifinals show, they brought it again, and voters approved.
Dee Dee Simon
Prison nurse Dee Dee Simon's cover of Teddy Swims' "Lose Control" on the Aug. 27 episode prompted Klum to give her the week's sole Live Show Golden Buzzer. "You were the best in my eyes tonight!" Klum raved as the confetti fell.
Hakuna Matata Acrobats
The four-person team of daredevils from Tanzania stunned the judges with an act that Cowell called both "difficult" and "dangerous." But they didn't need any fan votes, because they went straight through to the finals, thanks to Vergara having used the first Live Show Golden Buzzer ever on them. She called them "one of the most ambitious acts I've seen on AGT,” as she delivered the good news.
Learnmore Jonasi
From the start, the comedian from Zimbabwe excited host Terry Crews, who said he's been waiting for a comedian "to take this all" for too long. Crews even bestowed a Golden Buzzer on Jonasi in his audition. The contestant was on his own in the next round, but America obviously liked what it saw.
Richard Goodall
Oh, Richard! The singer, a janitor from Terre Haute, Ind., wowed the judges and the fans with his take on songs such as Michael Bolton's "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." While his notes weren't always perfect, his passion could be felt through the screen. Klum, who gave him her Golden Buzzer at his audition acknowledged it. "I don't know what it is with you, Richard," she said at one point, "but I just have a really soft spot for you in my heart."
Roni Sagi and Rhythm
The dog-owner act from Israel danced — both of them! — even adding in some flips for the pup. Roni Sagi is a dog trainer who said she first noticed Rhythm's talent when she saw him tapping his feet on her bed at six weeks old. Mandel said that, if he had had a Golden Buzzer when she performed at the quarterfinal, he would have used it on her and Rhythm.
Sebastián and Sonia
Aerialist duo Sebastián & Sonia received Cowell’s Live Show Golden Buzzer on the Sept. 3 episode, following Sebastián’s solo performance to Shawn Mendes' "In My Blood." His partner, Sonia, had suffered an injury during rehearsals, and she watched him with her arm in a sling. Cowell lauded him for his resolve to perform despite their setback, noting that most people would have just quit. "That is the definition of courage," Cowell said. "You don't give up." Sonia assured the judges that she would be okay for the season finale.
Sky Elements
An early favorite of the judges, Sky Elements sent hundreds of drones into the sky, even requiring the audience to leave the building to look at colorful, choreographed displays. They formed the faces of Cowell, Klum, Mandel, and Vergara, which delighted Klum, "It's very exciting when you see your face on a billboard," she said after their Aug. 20 performance, "but this is next level!" The audience loved them, too. They did a more emotional show that left the judges in tears during the Sept. 11 semifinals episode.
Solange Kardinaly
Kardinaly's fun performances, in which she repeatedly changes her ensembles without any apparent effort, have already caught serious attention. As the judges have noted, even the magician's audition went viral, so it was no surprise she had the votes to move on.
Finalists will perform one more time, on the Tuesday, Sept. 17 episode, and the winner will be crowned one week later.
