There’s A Secret Meloetta Hidden In Pokémon’s New DLC

Back in the day, there used to be schoolyard rumors about rare and powerful Pokémon, hidden with the most obscure methods imaginable. You know the ones — Mew is under the truck by Vermillion City’s dock, and you just need to use Strength on it, or beat the Elite Four 100 times, or catch 300 Pidgey. None of these were ever true, and the methods for catching them were so ridiculous we should have known it was fake from the get go.

That said, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s second DLC just came out, and in it is hiding a mythical Pokémon with one of the most absurd unlock conditions we’ve ever seen. The mythical Pokémon in question is Meloetta, a singing and dancing Pokémon from generation 5 — fitting, given The Indigo Disk takes place in gen 5’s Unova.

It’s a surprisingly capable and versatile Pokémon, capable of switching between Psychic and Fighting types at will in battle, and has a fantastic signature move that can put an opposing Pokémon to sleep. Some of its base stats leave a little something to be desired, but it’s a pretty solid all-rounder nonetheless.

How To Find Meloetta In The Indigo Disk

Finding Meloetta in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk is one of the most bizarre experiences we’ve ever had in video games, and we’re in awe that somebody was actually able to figure it out.

It all starts with a specific location in Blueberry Academy’s Terarium, which we’ve included a map screenshot of above. If you go here, to that very specific location, you’ll find the faintest signs of a whirlwind. It is technically a whirlwind, but it’s just barely noticeable, and it’s more of a circularly-shaped light breeze.

Here’s the wild part: you have to spin on the spot while in that whirlwind. The exact timing is unclear – some say it’s 10 seconds or more, others say it’s 30 seconds – but we’d recommend just spinning for as long as it takes for you to get bored.

After you’re done spinning, you’ll need to whip out your camera – that’s down on the d-pad – and switch filters to the sepia filter. You’ll also need to change the music using the ZR and ZL buttons to the sleepy face, and then it’s just a waiting game.

After a few seconds with your camera out, you should start to hear Meloetta singing. Look around a little bit, and you should spot the mythical Pokémon itself, serenading along with your camera’s song. Put your camera away, walk up to Meloetta, and press A to initiate a battle, where you can battle it.

As we said, it’s quite a ridiculous method, and exactly the kind of thing that would have spread like wildfire through the schoolyard back in the day. Still, it’s a relatively pain-free method for finding yourself a mythical Pokémon that is very rarely distributed, so get on it ASAP.
