A white T-shirt is arguably the most versatile piece one can have in their wardrobe. So if that's the case, riddle me this: why is finding one so damn hard? It should be pretty easy since it's a basic article of clothing that practically goes with everything. But between the various cuts, crops, materials, silhouettes, price points—the criteria list can go on and on—the world of high-quality T-shirts is truly a minefield. I'd know, because I've been on an extensive research journey over the last few years.

You see, my aunt and uncle owned a boutique in NoHo for many, many years, which was renowned for its premium T-shirt selection (the store was literally called Basic Basic/Tee-zone). They had every style from every luxury brand imaginable—from Michael Stars to James Perse to LAMade to Three Dots—and were even profiled in The New York Times. As my aunt put it then (and will probably still say today), "What's the perfect shirt? That's like asking a man what the perfect woman is." I was always lucky enough to get my tops there, but when the store closed its doors shortly before Covid, I knew the day would come when I'd be left with a dilemma of having to find my own tees.

That day came in August 2021, when it was time to retire my 5-year-old go-tos. And so, the journey began with tons of Reddit searches, online shopping, sample requests, and product testing. But in October 2023, my search for the best T-shirt came to end when I was introduced to the Buck Mason Slub Easy Crew—and I can no longer gate-keep it anymore.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty, let me preface this by saying I have every Buck Mason T-shirt style available and love them all for different reasons. But if there was only one I could own, I'd say the Slub Easy Crew. Without a doubt.

The shirt has has all the trimmings of a classic crewneck. The round collar isn't too high on the neck where it feels like it's choking you (something I find very common in the T-shirt market), or too low on the chest that it veers in the boatneck territory. It hits at the perfect sweet-sport area. The silhouette is slimming relaxed, but not in a way where you'll look and feel schlumpy or unkempt. The sleeves don't cut into my pits (the worst!) and the straight hem hits mid-length—it's neither too long or too short. As Goldilocks would say, it's just right.

Then there's the fabrication: Its 100% cotton material is sinfully soft and ridiculously lightweight yet warming. I wore it under knits and blazers throughout winter without a problem, but with warmer days here, it can definitely be worn solo. And the fact that it's a luxury T-shirt with a reasonable price point? A dream come true, if you ask me.

The Slub Easy Crew—and really, all the Buck Mason T-shirts for that matter—ticks my basic sartorial boxes. The tee lives up to its name; it's easy. It's low-maintenance and a throw-on-and-go style that requires zero outfit prep. I tend to style it the old-fashioned way with jeans and Mary Janes, ballet flats, or white sneakers, but there have been some cases where I've dressed it up with heels and a fun set of earrings. It just works in every way possible. I have mine in white and black, but I will go as far as to say it's one worth owning in every color. Obsessed is an understatement.
