Tim Burton Says a Third ‘Beetlejuice’ Isn't LikelyWarner Bros

More than thirty years after the zany Beetlejuice made Michael Keaton and director Tim Burton household names, the duo are finally back. In the sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the ghostly trickster returns to wreak havoc in another horror-comedy romp heavy on nostalgia and celebrity star power.

Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) reprises her role as Lydia Deetz, who can communicate with the dead following her family’s traumatic experience with Beetlejuice in the 1988 film. She’s joined once again by Catherine O’Hara (Schitt's Creek) as her stepmother, Delia, as well as newcomer Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as Lydia's ghost-skeptic daughter, Astrid. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also features Monica Belluci (Mafia Mamma) as Beetlejuice’s evil ex-wife, Justin Theroux (White House Plumbers) as Lydia’s controlling boyfriend, and Willem Dafoe (Kinds of Kindness) as a paranormal detective. After one of our newcomers accidentally utters Beetlejuice's name three times, it's off to the races.

The new film is out now. Though we won’t spoil how the movie ends, it’s safe to say that Beetlejuice 3 likely isn’t in the cards. There is also no post-credits scene to hint at the future of the franchise or give audiences clues to the direction of a potential third film. The final moments of the movie tease that Beetlejuice could always return for another haunting, of course, but it sounds like another reunion isn’t on the table for Burton.

Let’s do the math,” the director told Deadline at the movie’s Venice Film Festival premiere. “It took 35 years to do this one. For another, I’d be over 100. It could be possible thanks to medical science. But I don’t think so.” Say it ain’t so, Mr. Burton! He’s probably just afraid to say Beetlejuice’s name three times in the title and accidentally summon him. Might I suggest Threetlejuice?
