A Rep For Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin Spoke Out on Breakup Rumors

Daily Mail and TMZ’s reports that Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have quietly ended their relationship after seven years together are not true after all. A rep for the couple told E! this afternoon that breakup rumors are “not true. They are happily together.”

A source revealed to People in March that the couple actually got “engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married.”

Martin first sparked breakup rumors in May when he told a fan he was single in a post she shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. A source told People in June that he and Johnson were still together at the time. They’ve “had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on,” the source said.

Earlier today, a source claimed to Daily Mail that the couple had grown apart: Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work. They’ll always have love for each other but they’ve both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term. They’re both busy people, Chris has been in Europe with Coldplay and they both have personal priorities, passions and work commitments which don’t naturally intertwine with each other. They wanted it to work but it just hasn’t, and they’ve now accepted it is best to move on.”

Throughout their time dating, Johnson and Martin have chosen not to speak about their relationship in interviews for the most part. In March, however, Johnson did share a little about how much she enjoys seeing Martin perform in Coldplay. “I love watching him,” she told Bustle. “I could watch him every day. I don’t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don’t know... I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.”

She called his two children with ex Gwyneth Paltrow her stepchildren, saying, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.”
