For bike racing fans, there are many moments that are unforgettable, historic, and amazing. Then there are those that come along not just once in a generation, but once in a lifetime. The ones that touch and change something in our souls.

Lizzie Deignan riding into the velodrome at Roubaix by herself in 2021, covered and caked in mud and grit after a solo breakaway that she’d held for almost the entire race, minutes away from winning the first-ever Paris-Roubaix Femmes, was such a moment.

Deigan burst into tears before she’d even finished the race. Spectators wept. The race announcers' voices were cracking, and veteran commentator Anthony McCrossen openly admitted that he was crying while observing the first time women were ever able to race Paris-Roubaix. Three years ago.

And while no edition of the Paris-Roubaix Femmes will likely ever match the emotional and historic weight of the first, there is something singularly special about the women’s “Hell of the North.”

While the infamous Arenberg was still deemed to be “too dangerous” for the women’s race this year by race organizers ASO, the course has been extended to add an additional 20.7K bringing it to a total length of 145.4K. The additional length provided the organizers the perfect opportunity to also add the Arenberg, but they declined to do so for 2023.

The women will be racing over a total of 17 cobbled secteurs, including the five-star Mons-en-Pévele and Carrefour de 'Arbre.

The Classics season has been dominated so far this year by SD Worx, and two of its star riders, Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes, will be starting this Saturday. But Paris-Roubaix Femmes has for its previous two editions been the Trek-Segafredo show. Many are favoring last year’s winner (and Trek-Segafredo rider) Elisa Longo Borghini to do well again this year, and the team has not been shy about announcing it’s intentions for a third consecutive win.
