Pink Beams While Performing with Daughter Willow, 13, Before Kamala Harris' DNC Acceptance Speech
Moments before the musical guest took the stage, The Chicks performed an a capella rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner"
Pink surprised the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Aug. 22, by bringing 13-year-old daughter Willow Sage on stage for a stripped-down performance of her 2017 hit "What About Us."
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the "Raise Your Glass" singer took the stage at the DNC alongside her daughter, delivering a peaceful duet before Vice President Kamala Harris delivers her history-making speech.
Pink shares Willow with her husband Carey Hart. She has performed onstage with her mother before and joined Pink to record "A Million Dreams (Reprise)" for The Greatest Showman: Reimagined when she was 7. Pink and Hart, 49, are also parents to son Jameson, 7.
Pink — who marked her first-ever performance at the DNC — followed soon after The Chicksperformed "The Star-Spangled Banner" on Thursday night.
While this was her first performance at the convention, Pink, 44, has long been vocal about her political views.
In November, the pop star teamed up with the non-profit PEN America to give away thousands of banned books at her concerts in Florida. The books she chose to give away include themes of racial and sexual identity.
Her decision to give away the books came after the state implemented laws limiting free speech in education in recent years, such as the Individual Freedom Act, which was passed in July 2022 and limits how systemic racism and discrimination is taught in schools and the workplace, per the ACLU. In 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis also signed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill into legislation to limit discussion of LGBTQ+ topics in schools.
Then, when Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustrations and optimism for a better future: "I think all of our nerves are collectively fried from so many years of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. +pandemics, mass shootings, wars and the total lunacy, hypocrisy, ignorance of the GOP-it's all a bit much."
She added: "But we will stick together. Good will prevail over evil."
On Wednesday night, Stevie Wonder, Sheila E., John Legend and Maren Morris performed at the convention.

Legend, Wonder and Sheila performed an energetic rendition of Prince and the Revolution's 1984 classic "Let's Go Crazy" from Purple Rain, per footage from KSDK News.
Meanwhile, Morris paid tribute to Harris by performing her 2020 protest song, "Better Than We Found It."
While the track was initially released in the wake of George Floyd's murder to express her support for the Black Lives Matter movement, Morris seemingly switched it up to show the dichotomy between modern-day Democratic and Republican platforms.
"When lines of tomorrow are drawn / Can I live with the side that I chose to be on? / Will we sit on our hands, do nothing about it? / Or will we leave this world better than we found it?" she sang. "America, America, divided we fall / America, America, God save us all / From ourselves and the Hell that we've built for our kids / America, America, we're better than this."
