I try not to say that every accessory that crosses my path is an essential, but every once in a while something will come my way that actually is. As far as I'm concerned? A good pair of brown boots, not overly stylized, that can be worn with a number of aesthetics, is a necessity for a versatile fall wardrobe. They can be tough to spot, but when you see them, you know. In the case of the Loeffler Randall Indy Tall Boot, you really do indeed know when you know.
To start, the pull-on boot has a 1.5 inch heel, which makes them both ultra-comfortable and walkable, while still giving a bit of support. The visual is clean, with no zippers, ties or buckles to speak of, just really beautiful leather and a simple shape. As I mentioned, the pull-on style makes them easy to wear, but perhaps even further, you don't get that bottle neck around the ankle, so if you were to, say, wear them with jeans tucked in for a riding boots vibe, you don't get any bunching.
Something that makes these a breeze to style in particular is that the detailing isn't obtrusive, so they can work with a bunch of textures and fabrics seamlessly. And that elegant, not-rounded-not-square toe keeps the Indy from looking to dated to a specific year or trend cycle.
Now, I own the Indy in the rich espresso, which in my opinion is the perfect color for fall. I gravitate towards warm tones, but I also feel like the darker hue is more wearable than say, a camel or a cognac, because it's not quite as casual. Worn with a day dress these pull a look into an elevated space, but worn with something a bit more frilly, they keep the look grounded and polished, without feeling like they can't transition from day to night even though the heel is modest. Moving seamlessly and not looking underdressed or out of place no matter the hour? Now that's a day-to-night story worth telling.
If there's only one pair of boots to expand the possibilities in your wardrobe, it's the Indy.
