Olympic Swimmers Use This Unexpected Pantry Ingredient To Get 'Glass Hair'
At this year's Olympic games, there have been few things as magical as watching artistic swimmers from across the globe dance on water (and under it too). As impressive as moonwalking under water is, we're seriously in awe of the "glass hair" swimmers are able to maintain through their complex routines.
What's the secret to their glassy, slicked-back hair? It turns out that it's an ingredient you'll likely find in your pantry.
During an interview with Seattle, Washington's K5 News, Team USA artistic swimmer Keana Hunter revealed that they use a technique that involves Knox, a type of gelatin.
"People wouldn’t really think about it, but it’s actually Knox gelatin. It's the packets you use when you're making Jell-O or cheesecake. And we just get the unflavored ones because we don't want to smell like anything weird," Hunter revealed.
She went on to explain that they mix the gelatin with hot water until it reaches a honey-like consistency. From there, you put your hair into a tight bun.
Once you're ready to wash out the homemade hair gel, Hunter suggested lots of hot water, letting your shampoo sink in, and using a "strong comb."
And if you thought gelatin was bizarre, artistic swimmers once used Vaseline to get their sleek, glass hair look. Although it got the job done, it proved to be a mess when washing out.
Welp, it looks like this weekend's Jell-O shots are getting put on hold for glass hair.
