Nicole Kidman always knows how to emanate her own shine under the spotlight.
The actor made her entrance at the 81st Venice International Film Festival today—and what an entrance it was. For her first appearance at the event, Kidman walked the red carpet for the premiere of her film Babygirl, where she debuted a heart-stopping two-tone gown from Schiaparelli’s Fall/Winter 2024 couture collection.
The sculptural dress featured a transparent beige bodice with gauzy cloudlike layers adorning the strapless neckline, and a ribbed corset that cinched Kidman at the waist and then flared out to the sides to create a dramatic hourglass silhouette. As the bodice ended, the skirt, in an inky black, began—the transition from beige to black consisting of a rain of black sequins and clear beads, the colors of the appliqués creating sharp contrasts atop the opposite-colored fabric. Small black sequins were also scattered throughout the beige bodice.
Kidman’s black velvet heels peeked out from under her gown, matching not only the skirt and sequins of the piece, but also Kidman’s jet-black eyeliner. She accessorized the statement-making ensemble with white pearl drop earrings and several diamond rings.
A24’s Babygirl, directed by Halina Reijn and starring Kidman, is a sex-positive thriller about Romy, a powerful New York City–based CEO, who puts her career and family on the line when she begins a saucy affair with a much younger intern.
“It’s about desires, your inner thoughts, it’s about secrets, marriage, truth, power, consent, the language [around] sex,” Kidman said at a recent press conference. “It’s told by a woman through her gaze, and that’s what it made it so unique. Suddenly, I was going to be in the hands of a woman with this material. It was very deep and very freeing to be able to share those things.”
