With the first race in the new National Cycling League a few weeks away, race organizers announced this week that we’ll be able to watch all the action with a subscription to the cycling network, GCN+ for the next three years.

Considering that one of the main goals of the NCL’s innovative new racing format is an elevated spectator and fan experience, solidifying a broadcast deal with the cycling streaming platform was a crucial piece of that puzzle.

"My ears instantly pricked up when I first heard about the National Cycling League,” said Daniel Lloyd, Director of Racing, GCN+. “The criterium scene in the U.S. has been going from strength to strength in recent years, and that continues with the addition of this brand new series, which you'll be able to watch live on GCN+.”

A new series that’s a departure from the norm

The NCL features a brand new format, and Lloyd believes that the fans will be drawn to watch the racing live.“We are guaranteed a lot of action, in part because of what's on the line,” he said. “The NCL has the largest prize pot ever seen in criterium racing. For traditional road racing fans, there's no doubt it will be a departure from the norm, but things need a shakeup on occasion, and I'd predict that the NCL will do exactly that.”

With on-site commentary from veteran criterium racing broadcasters, fans will get real-time insights on the racing, as well as behind-the-scenes stories on the teams and athletes.

Modeled on successful broadcast styles from prime-time sports leagues, NCL coverage will feature extensive pre-game and post-game shows.

“As we build the National Cycling League to rival the major U.S. sports leagues, we need to create great media products for fans on-site and around the world. Knowledgeable, long-time cycling fans who watch GCN+ will immediately realize NCL races belong alongside coverage of the classics and grand tours.” NCL Co-founder and NFL agent, David Mulugheta, commented.

We will most definitely be watching!
