Fans of the Persona series are eagerly awaiting the next game from its creators, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and it’s going to offer a new take on the series’ signature gameplay. The game is now open to be wishlisted on the PlayStation Store, with a new description for its gameplay elements that look a lot like Persona, but in reverse.

We've known that the game will take cues from Persona while being set in a more fantastical setting, but the new description shines a light on just how similar the experience will be. On the PlayStation Store, the game's description reads:

"Go on quests, dungeon dive, & hunt for treasures by day. Strengthen relationships, build bonds, & increase virtues by night. Choose your actions wisely, time management is key to achieving your goal."

That sounds like ATLUS decided to completely flip the structure of a traditional Persona game, where players usually develop relationships during the day and fight monsters at night. That's not all though, as the store description also reveals a "gauntlet runner" that players will use to traverse the world.

Combat in Metaphor will combine real-time and turn-based systems to deliver something new. After developing relationships with party members, players will be able to choose specific "archetypes" to add a custom flavor to their adventure.

"A mysterious & exciting story unfolds in a world where people must fight their own anxiety," reads the game's description on PSN, revealing that yes, ATLUS is still using the tried-and-test method of exploring the human psyche through its physical manifestations.

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the fantasy world of Euchronia, inspired by medieval Europe. You'll play as a young boy of the Elda tribe called the Traveling Boy, who must embark on a quest with a fairy companion, Gallica to lift the curse from the kingdom's lost prince. The game features ATLUS' signature stylistic elements, particularly with its UI which takes a lot of cues from the Persona franchise.
