NetEase Games has announced a new hero shooter in partnership with Marvel, and it looks almost exactly like Overwatch. The upcoming free-to-play game, Marvel Rivals, is a 6v6 hero shooter that will hold its closed Alpha playtest in May.

NetEase and Marvel have released a gameplay trailer for the shooter, showing off its roster of heroes and their combat abilities. Watch it below:

“We are overjoyed to bring Marvel Rivals to players around the world. We have always loved Marvel’s universe and its characters, and we are so excited to develop this game,” said Marvel Rivals Producer, Stephen Wu in a press statement. “This is the game we want to make, and we feel very lucky to be the team who made all of this come true.”

The trailer shows many Marvel heroes duking it out in various arenas, with plenty of destructible environments. Heroes can be seen using team-up attacks, with Gali, Galactus’ daughter, orchestrating the multiversal madness. The trailer ends with a unique variant of the Guardians of the Galaxy joining the fray including Storm and Scarlet Witch.

“Marvel Rivals is one of our most ambitious game development projects. Since the conceptualization of the game and throughout our collaboration, our Marvel team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we are thrilled to work with the incredible team at NetEase Games to help deliver the ultimate Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter,” said Jay Ong, Head of Marvel Games.

The game will also include a storyline that sees Doctor Doom fighting against his future counterpart from 2099. This has led to disturbances in the multiverse, creating a “Timestream Entanglement”. It’s not too dissimilar from the hit Marvel comics storyline Secret Wars, which saw the creation of “Battleworld”, a planet that combines elements of distinct Marvel universes. Marvel Studios will adapt Secret Wars into a feature film in Avengers 6, slated for release in 2027.
