A man with a terminal illness is looking for a forever home for his dog in Plainville, Massachusetts. He wants to find a new home for his beloved pet before he passes away. Having been diagnosed with cancer, he has come to terms with his fate but refuses to leave his best friend without a loving home even after he is gone.

David Fine was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in August 2023. Unfortunately, he was given only six months to live. However, before he passes away from his terminal illness, the man wants to find a loving home for his beloved dog, Babs.

The Massachusetts resident has previously received treatment for Leukemia and vascular disease. This time, he decided to skip the treatment, calling it “brutal” as the chemotherapy would leave him feeling sick, and just as he would start experiencing a little improvement, it would be time for his next appointment.

According to People, Fine has had the pup for over 10 years. He adopted Babs as a puppy after she had been rehomed twice. Since Fine doesn’t have any kids of his own, he considers himself the canine’s dad.

He noted that he couldn’t bring himself to get another pet as it is heartbreaking to lose them. However, Fine is glad Babs can outlive him and enjoy her life in another loving home. He plans to find her a forever home before he enters hospice care. While his extended family could take Babs in, she requires a home with no pets or small children. So, he has to look for a home for his beloved pet elsewhere.

Fine has published an advertisement in a local newspaper. The adorable canine is well-behaved and housebroken, so her future parents don’t have to worry about training her. In an interview with WJAR, he said, “She’s the most important thing at this point. My fate is sealed, but hers is not. I have to make sure she gets as many good years out of the rest of her life as I can.”
