Man Disappeared Nearly 30 Years Ago After Leaving for Work. His Remains May Have Just Been Found

Human remains found in a car in California may be connected to a 30-year-old missing person case.

The remains were found inside the vehicle in Sacramento County last week, according to CBS affiliate KOVR, NBC affiliate KCRA and ABC affiliate KXTV.

Authorities said on April 21 that the remains could possibly be connected to the disappearance of 36-year-old Arnel Nagal Narvaiz in 1994, KCRA reported.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Stockton Police Department for comment.

Narvaiz left home to go to work in his beige Toyota on July 1 but never returned home, the National Missing and Unified Persons System said. He was headed to a Delta Island ranch in the Twin Cities Road area of Sacramento County.

Adventures with Purpose, a search and rescue group, said in a Facebook post on April 21 that they were looking for another man when they found the car and the remains inside.

"On April 13, 2024, while Searching for Duke Heringer from Elk Grove, California, AWP found a Beige 1988 Toyota Cressida with the California license plate number 2HTD233, in the Sutten Slough 31 feet underwater," the group said in their post.

According to reports, Stockton Police have notified Narvaiz's family of the discovery and officials are still waiting for DNA testing to identify the remains. KCRA and KXTV reported that an autopsy would also be conducted.

No cause of death has been determined, but Stockton Police said there don't appear to be signs of foul play, per KOVR and KXTV.
