There are a lot of health benefits to eating avocados, but most importantly, they’re delicious. Eat them on toast, on a sandwich, in a salad, make them into guacamole — there are so many ways to eat avocados. And if you love them, you need these kitchen tools to make your avo eating experience even better.

First, if you’re going to get any avocado tools, make it this one. The OXO Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer can cut your avocado in half, take out the pit, then create even avocado slices. It’s sharp enough to cut but not as sharp as, say, a regular knife, which is important.

In 2020, researchers at Emory University estimated that over 50,000 avocado-related knife injuries occurred between 1998 and 2017. The phenomenon has even been deemed “avocado hand.” The team used data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, which collects information on injuries related to consumer products. However, the study said that its estimate is likely on the low end because the data only comes from patients who went to the emergency room.

So, yeah – maybe a sharp knife isn’t the safest tool for cutting open an avocado.

Next, if you love guacamole (um, everyone?), you should consider getting the Casabella Guac-Lock Container. You know when you make fresh guacamole, and a day later, it’s all brown on top? That won’t happen with this airtight container. The Guac-Lock seals up guacamole so tight – it keeps all the air out (which is what turns the avo brown through oxidation). The makers of Guac-Lock say it can keep your guac fresh and green for up to one week!

Finally, even if you love avocados, you may not eat a whole one every time you cut into one. You can save the other half from going brown with an Avocado Keeper. Maybe you’ve tried all the tricks — putting a little lemon juice on your avocado, sealing it in an airtight bag or pressing plastic wrap into it — but you can skip all that and use this container. The plastic reusable Avocado Keeper holds an avocado half to keep it sealed and fresh, so it’s still green when you’re ready to eat it.
