You don’t want to fall behind now that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is back for season 2. If you’re planning to follow along with this epic series based on the writing of J.R.R. Tolkien week by week, here’s what you need to know.
The second season picks up right where the first season left off. Three of the titular rings of power have been forged to be worn and wielded by the elves. Our heroes are scattered across Middle-earth and beyond, embarking on new adventures or simply regrouping after the events of the explosive ending. Our villain, Sauron himself, has been revealed and rejected by Galadriel but doesn’t seem too bothered. If you’re familiar with Lord of the Rings, you know how this ends, but how does it unfold? That’s what we’ll find out in season 2.
When does The Rings of Power season 2 premiere?
The first three episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered on Thursday August 29, 2024, at 3 a.m. ET. It’s kind of a lot at once, but you have all weekend to watch each one!
Pro tip: Keep that specific, slightly annoying drop time in mind—some eager beavers are going to get up stupid early to watch and might post spoilers on social media before you’ve even had your coffee. (Or maybe they just live in Australia and have time zones on their side. Lucky!!)
When does the next episode 4 of The Rings of Power drop?
Episode 4 will drop on September 5! After the first week, episodes will drop one at a time on a weekly basis each Thursdays until the eighth and final episode of the season on October 3, 2024.
Amazon Prime loves to do what I call a “batch premiere” instead of a traditional weekly release or a binge release. That way, you can kind of have it both ways: Start the season off with a small cluster of episodes to get you good and obsessed, and then slowly savor the rest of the season for the next month and a half. Every Lord of the Rings story is about the journey, not the destination. It’s fine—encouraged even!—to log off and take your time.
