Whenever I get tired of re-watching Emily in Paris, I often turn to social media, where I’ll pore through videos of the cast, usually landing on clips of costars Lily Collins and Ashley Park, who play onscreen besties Emily Cooper and Mindy Chen on the show. While both do a terrific part in their roles, watching them interact behind the scenes makes it clear that they’re not pretending to be close (just watch this video if you need proof). So, when it came time to attend the season 4 part 1 premiere of Emily in Paris in Los Angeles last night, it was no surprise that the fashionable BFFs each looked like the yin to the other’s yang in contrasting gowns with one overarching concept: sparkle.

Collins embraced the vibe in a glamorous custom Armani Privé gown in black—a look that winked to her titular character with its trio of varying patterns, but overall kept the Collins touch in that it was much more subdued than anything Emily might wear.

The look was styled by Andrew Mukamal, and it slightly winked to another Netflix original—The Queen’s Gambit—with its chessboard skirt that was composed of shimmering diamond jewels stitched onto transparent material in a lattice pattern. Up top, the dress included a strapless, square bodice with mirrorball tiles that curved around Collins’s chest, and it also featured a striped peplum middle that fanned out from her waist.

As for Park, she went a little more dramatic with a silver chainmail Lever Couture gown that looked like strips of metal wrapped around her body. The material was fashioned in an asymmetrical design that twirled around the actor like a Christmas bow, with extra strands used to create a swelling shoulder, while the other side was left bare. As for the skirt, the metallic pieces dangled in streamers around the actor’s legs, with one side creating a high slit up her leg. To match the dress, Park’s frequent stylist Annie Easton accessorized the look with silver platform heels in a patent leather, as well as silver diamond jewelry.
