“The Librarians” spinoff “The Next Chapter” moves to TNT after being shelved at the CW: 'Back home!'

"Bringing back 'The Librarian' franchise to the place it was born 20 years ago is an incredible feeling," producer Dean Devlin tells Entertainment Weekly.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter is getting a new chapter.

The CW's planned sequel to The Librarians had previously been shelved earlier this month, but Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that The Librarians: The Next Chapter — the follow-up to the successful TNT drama about a secret team tasked with guarding powerful, valuable, and sometimes supernatural artifacts — is now moving to TNT.

The move brings the show full circle, as The Librarians was originally a spinoff of the three Librarian movies starring Noah Wyle, which originally aired on TNT.

"I feel like I’m home again!" showrunner/executive producer Dean Devlin tells EW. "Bringing back the Librarian franchise to the place it was born 20 years ago is an incredible feeling. Getting the chance to work with TNT is an incredible gift, for me personally and the show professionally. I’m incredibly grateful that we are able to come back home!"

The Librarians: The Next Chapter was originally scheduled to air on the CW on Oct. 24 after Superman & Loisas was originally announced in May. But it was reported last week that the show had been pulled from the fall schedule, with no new premiere date set. The news came two days after the CW announced that it will premiere a new unscripted series titled The Wranglers, which follows the staff of a dude ranch in Montana, instead on Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

In a statement to EW, Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at the CW Network, said: “The CW is incredibly proud to have worked alongside Dean Devlin and the entire team at Electric Entertainment to create an extraordinary continuation of The Librarians franchise. We are thrilled that the series’ original network TNT loves it as much as we do and saw great value bringing it to their audience. It’s a first for CW Studios and we cannot wait for fans to experience this incredible next chapter.”

The Librarians began in 2004 as a series of TV movies starring Wyle before coming back as a series in 2014. It ran for four seasons on TNT. Last year, the CW ordered The Next Chapter, which it described as a "spinoff of the original series."

The Librarians: The Next Chapter stars Callum McGowan as Vikram, a Librarian from the past who gets stuck in the present. According to a description from the network, when Vikram returns to his castle, "he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians." The series also stars Jessica Green, Olivia Morris, and Bluey Robinson.

A premiere date has not yet been set for The Librarians: The Next Chapter on TNT.
