Waking up in the mornings can be challenging, especially when you've only slept for a few hours the night before—which is something Kate Hudson understands all too well.

Between caring for her three kids, acting, gracing red carpets, running her fitness apparel empire (Fabletics) and supplement brand (InBloom), and keeping up with her intense workouts, Hudson knows the power of relying on coffee to keep her going.

But these days, she’s swapping out her traditional coffee with a filling and delicious mocha smoothie chock full of nutritious ingredients to keep her full and focused throughout the day.

The smoothie includes a few standout powder supplements like the Green Protein (Chocolate Flavor) powder and the Brain Flow Good Thinking Powder, from Hudson's plant-based supplement brand, InBloom.

The 42-year-old actress created the brand to provide nutrient-rich and great-tasting supplements that improve skin health, cognition, and sleep for everyone. “When anyone asks me about my beauty regime, my answer is always sleep, water, and healthy food,” Hudson said in an interview with Marie Claire.

How to make Kate Hudson's mocha smoothie

Want to try out Hudson’s smoothie for yourself? Here are the ingredients:

In a recent video posted to her Instagram page, Hudson wrote, “This @tobeinbloom Brainpower Protein Mocha Smoothie is one crazy delicious cup full of adaptogens to protect against stress, protein for long-lasting energy, and enhancing mushrooms for cognitive focus,” she wrote. “It’ll keep you in flow ALL DAY—I promise.”

She then breaks down step-by-step how exactly she creates her favorite smoothie (she places all of the ingredients in a blender and blends) and shows how much of each ingredient she uses.

The health benefits of Hudson's smoothie

As for what makes the smoothie so great? The ingredients, of course. The recipe is full of nutrient-rich components that include unsaturated fats, flax, and chia seeds, which can be found in the NuttZo seed and nut butter. MCT oil is another source of better-for-you fats, that can even have energy-boosting benefits, too.

“A large body of literature has found that certain nutrients, flavonoids, unsaturated fats, and omega-3 fatty acids are associated with slower cognitive decline and reduced risk of dementia,” said Puja Agarwal, Ph.D., a nutritional epidemiologist and assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush Medical College in Chicago.

Meanwhile, the Green Protein powder is a plant-based supplement (great for vegans!) that's specifically designed to satisfy hunger. The brand also says the supplement has long-term effects that will help reduce fatigue and create more balance. Its ingredients include cocoa, ginger, cinnamon bark, and dandelion root.

Hudson has always been passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle. Though she enjoys this mocha smoothie in the a.m., the star also enjoys starting her mornings off by drinking celery juice to fuel her body. “I do not eat first thing in the morning,” she said in a video for Harper’s Bazaar. “If anybody does celery juice on an empty stomach, they know why,” she added with a smirk. “Cause it’s a joyous morning activity.”
