“Grey's Anatomy”'s Kevin McKidd Teases a 'Rocky Road' with 'Some Tension' for Owen and Teddy“ ”(Exclusive)“”
McKidd tells PEOPLE his character Owen Hunt and his wife Teddy Altman are going "to fight through it" after being fired from Grey Sloan Memorial
Kevin McKidd knows it won't be smooth sailing for his character Owen Hunt and his wife Teddy Altman when Grey’s Anatomy returns for its 21st season.
As fans may recall, the couple found themselves in the center of controversy — and ultimately were fired — after Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) discovered Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) secret Alzheimer's research.
McKidd, 51, opened up to PEOPLE about what the future holds for Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen on the red carpet at the premiere ofIt Ends with Us in New York City on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
“It's a rocky road for them to come back to the hospital,” he teased. “It's a lot of fun when it happens.”
“I can't say too much about it, but it causes some tension between Teddy and Owen as well,” he added. “Because there's been some decisions made, but I think they're going to fight through it. But it's a little bit rocky for a little moment.”
The Scottish actor also reflected on his future on the show after being part of the ABC medical drama since 2008. Sharing whether he sees himself moving on from the series, he said, “I don't know the answer to that question. I love playing the part.”
“Meg Marinis, she's our showrunner, is writing the role and all of our roles," he added. "It feels like she's freshened us all up as characters. She's given us all new things to sort of work on and work through as characters. As long as that continues, I'm happy."

At this point, McKidd said the cast and crew “feels like my family."
“I've been there for 15 years; I can't believe it. I've not been anywhere for 15 years," he added. "So it feels like family now. It would be a lot to walk away from. So I'm very happy there.”
