Every animal needs to go through their "firsts." Their first walk around the neighborhood, their first potty break, their first time playing fetch. But a Ginger Maine Coon Cat's first time going up the stairs is so sweet.

It took him a second, but when Tigger managed to figure out this whole stairs thing, he really took to it.

Video of the Maine Coon Cat trying several times to get up the stairs was shared by @wildmane_mainecoons in California. It shows the Maine Coon working up the strength to get up the first step. Whoops! Okay, he needed to try it again.

One, two, three...he did it! Go little cat go! Not only did Tigger manage to get up the first step this time, he kept on going. Running all the way up the stairs until he got to his owner. Sure there were a few wobbles and missteps here and there — but it was his first time, give him a break!

"Tigger wanted to show off his new skill (with some slip ups thrown in)," his owner joked in the caption.

People in the comments section were rooting for the kitten. "I like how when cats are playing and get hurt they literally act like nothing happened," joked one person. "Tigger is like the Little Engine That Could.....I think I can. I think I CAN!!!!!" another commenter gushed. "Good thing Maines have the build of a Greek god, they can take those slips," one person pointed out. "Big feet can make stairs awkward I get it little guy," one commenter joked.

Teaching Cats to Climb the Stairs

If your kitten just can't nail the steps yet, don't be scared. It takes most kittens some time before they're able to climb stairs. They're just too small. But if you want to make it easier for them, here are somethings to keep in mind.

Cats don't have great vision until they are about 9 weeks old, and they don't have great depth perception. So first you'll want to keep any attempts to use the stairs supervised until they are about 3 or 4 months old.

Stairs covered with carpeting or a rug are easier for young cats to climb. When cats do start using the stairs it'll be wobbly, but that's okay. Eventually they'll get the hang of it and your cat will be walking up and down the stairs like a pro.
