Forgotten 1993 Chrysler 300 Concept Comes Up for Sale
There have been few auto show experiences quite like what we saw on the floor in Detroit back in 1993. The event saw major concept arrivals, including early takes on the Porsche Boxster and Plymouth Prowler, as well as a pair of unique Chrysler models. While many folks will recall the striking 1993 Chrysler Thunderbolt concept, few will remember the 1993 Chrysler 300 concept, now offered for sale by the team over at Hemmings.
Half a decade before the 300 M would revive the brand’s signature sedan nameplate, Chrysler’s sedan lineup consisted of the Concorde and New Yorker models. The cars rode on the front-drive LH Platform by the early 1990s, which came supported by either a 3.3-liter or 3.5-liter V-6 engine, mated in both cases to a four-speed automatic gearbox. The larger engine provided a stout 214 hp, significantly more than the 189 hp provided by a contemporary BMW 325i. In an effort to highlight the luxurious appointments of the new LH platform vehicles, Chrysler enlisted the help of the folks at American Sunroof Company. Together the two companies devised a special concept for the 1993 show, which wore the ever-important 300 nameplate.
The LH-based concept car featured a unique glass panoramic roof with a giant electric sun shade, an upgraded interior made from soft Italian leather, and a center exit exhaust system. According to Hemmings, the conversion also included a touring suspension system, unique 17-inch billet alloy wheels, and a set of Goodyear rubber. The build reportedly cost Chrysler $145,000 to complete.
You won’t have to pay nearly that much for the chance to own this concept today. Hemmings currently has the Chrysler concept listed for sale at a price of $35,000 and it looks to be in excellent condition. The seller notes that the vehicle has covered around 1000 miles since its creation, though the odometer reads only 330 miles in the photos. Regardless of the discrepancy, the vehicle clearly hasn’t seen much use since it rolled onto the floor of Cobo Hall. Given the fact that this is a concept car, one might struggle to legally add more mileage to that total. Not that you’d want to take what has to be one of the lowest mileage LH-platform cars in the world out for a drive.
